An earpiece includes a portion that seals the earpiece in the user's ear, preventing or reducing sounds from an external environment (e.g., the outside world) from entering the user's ear canal and being heard by the user. The earpiece also includes a duct from the user's ear canal to the external environment, which may be open or closed. Whether the duct is open or closed is automatically determined, such as based at least in part on audio measurements at a microphone of the earpiece. When the duct is open, sounds can pass from the external environment to the user's ear canal, active noise cancellation (ANC) is disabled, and an appropriate equalization (EQ) setting is used. When the duct is closed, sounds from the external environment are prevented from passing through to the user's ear canal (or are reduced), ANC is enabled, and an appropriate EQ setting is used.

An electronic device, method, and computer program product provide a flexible display that is configurable when being worn around a wrist of a user to increase a display width area. The electronic device includes a strap having an outer layer presenting the flexible display and an inner support layer attached to an underside of the flexible display. The strap is positionable between an uncoiled position and the coiled position with lateral edges of first and second terminal ends of the strap juxtaposed in abutted alignment. In response to determining the coiled position based on a sensor or a user interface input, a display driver of the electronic device selectively renders display content and presents rendered display content within a coil display area that is two straps wide of terminal ends of the strap in juxtaposed adjacent position.

In aspects of audio level adjustment based on UWB, a wireless device includes an ultra-wideband (UWB) radio to communicate with UWB radios respectively associated with speakers emitting audio. The UWB radio can receive UWB ranging data from the UWB radios associated with the speakers. An audio controller can utilize the UWB ranging data to monitor locations of the wireless device relative to the speakers and determine a location change of the wireless device relative to the speakers. The audio controller can communicate audio adjustment instructions based on the locations of the wireless device relative to the speakers or relative to the location change of the wireless device. The audio adjustment instructions can initiate an adjustment of a sound level of the audio emitted from at least one of the speakers and/or initiate a delay in the audio emitted from at least one of the speakers.

A voice call is established between two or more computing devices. The voice call may be, for example, audio only or audio and video. One computing device, referred to as a near-end device, receives a digital representation of background noise captured at another computing device, referred to as a far-end device. The near-end device captures voice audio from the user of the near-end device and adjusts the voice audio based at least in part on the digital representation of the background noise at the far-end device. The near-end device then transmits the adjusted voice audio to the far-end device for playback at the far-end device.

An adaptive echo cancellation system introduces an acoustic reference signal to audio content being transmitted to the speaker for playback. The acoustic reference signal is an out-of-band signal, such as an ultrasonic signal, which is typically not audible to humans. The microphone of the mobile device receives the audio content played back by the speaker as well as audio content introduced by the user (e.g., the speech of the user). The adaptive echo cancellation system detects the acoustic reference signal and determines a time delay between when the acoustic reference signal was introduced to the audio content and when the audio content including the acoustic reference signal was received by the mobile device. Echo is cancelled from the received audio content based on this determined time delay.

A system includes first electronic device in communication with a second electronic device. The first electronic device has one or more motion detectors determining an orientation of the first electronic device in three-dimensional space and a first communication device communicating an indication of the orientation of the first electronic device to the second electronic device. The second electronic device has at least a first audio output and a second audio output delivering audio signals to an environment of the second electronic device. A second communication device receives the indication of the orientation of the first electronic device in the three-dimensional space. One or more processors cause at least one of the first audio output and/or the second audio output to alter the audio signals when the orientation of the first electronic device in the three-dimensional space changes.

A wearable electronic device includes an anterior pendant and a posterior pendant. A first neck strap couples a first side of the anterior pendant to the posterior pendant, while a second neck strap couples a second side of the anterior pendant to the posterior pendant. The posterior pendant includes a first single channel posterior audio output delivering a left channel audio signal through a first port and a second single channel posterior audio output delivering a right channel audio signal from a second port. The anterior pendant has a single channel anterior audio output delivering a combined left channel audio signal and right channel audio signal to pull the stereo image defined by the combined acoustic signals toward the anterior pendant.

An electronic device includes a microphone coupled to a first substrate, a second substrate defining an acoustic port, and a pressure relief device situated between the first substrate and the second substrate. The pressure relief device includes a bore defining an acoustic duct through which the microphone receives acoustic energy from the acoustic port. The pressure relief device also includes a venting section. The venting section breaches the acoustic duct when a pressure within the acoustic duct exceeds a predefined pressure threshold.

A method, a system, and a computer program product for managing noise generated by active cooling devices of an electronic device. The method includes determining a current noise level of at least one active cooling device of an electronic device. The method further includes measuring, by at least one microphone of the electronic device, a level of ambient noise within a surrounding environment. The method further includes measuring, via at least one thermal sensor, a heat load generated by at least one heat generating device of the electronic device. The method further includes applying, to the at least one active cooling device, at least one adjustment that mitigates the heat load and minimizes noise generated by the at least one active cooling device relative to the level of ambient noise.

Techniques described herein provide modifications to a communication session based on a proximity context. Various implementations establish a communication session between a local communication device and a remote communication device. In response to establishing the communication session, one or more implementations determine a proximity context associated with an area around the local device, such as by detecting a proximity of various objects to the local device. Upon determining the proximity context, various embodiments alter various operating parameters associated the communication session, such as by reducing a speaker volume and/or announcing the presence of a person within proximity to the local device.

One method of operation includes beamforming a plurality of microphone outputs to obtain a plurality of virtual microphone audio channels. Each virtual microphone audio channel corresponds to a beamform. The virtual microphone audio channels include at least one voice channel and at least one noise channel. The method includes performing voice activity detection on the at least one voice channel and adjusting a corresponding voice beamform until voice activity detection indicates that voice is present on the at least one voice channel. Another method beamforms the plurality of microphone outputs to obtain a plurality of virtual microphone audio channels, where each virtual microphone audio channel corresponds to a beamform, and with at least one voice channel and at least one noise channel. The method performs voice recognition on the at least one voice channel and adjusts the corresponding voice beamform to improve a voice recognition confidence metric.

A method and apparatus increase audio output of a device. A mode of audio output operation of a device can be determined. Audio output can operate in a determined first mode of audio output operation that powers at least one first speaker at a first bandwidth and at a first output level below a first output level threshold. The audio output can operate in a determined second mode of audio output operation. The second mode of audio output operation can power the at least one first speaker at a high pass filtered second bandwidth that filters out low frequencies of the first bandwidth. The second mode of audio output operation can power the at least one first speaker at a second output level below a second output level threshold. The second output level threshold can be higher than the first output level threshold. The second output level can exceed the first output level threshold at least once. The second mode of audio output operation can power at least one second speaker at a low pass filtered second speaker bandwidth that includes at least the low frequencies of the first bandwidth.

A method and apparatus to reduce acoustic feedback from a speaker to a microphone in a communication device. An audio signal can be reproduced by an apparatus. An audible signal of at least one near-end user can be voice activity detected at the apparatus. At least one audio output channel of multiple audio output channels can be operated on to attenuate acoustic pressure representative of the audio signal near at least one microphone aperture location when the audible signal of the at least one near-end user is detected at the apparatus.

A method and apparatus for voice recognition performed in a voice recognition block comprising a plurality of voice recognition stages. The method includes receiving a first plurality of voice inputs, corresponding to a first phrase, into a first voice recognition stage of the plurality of voice recognition stages, wherein multiple ones of the voice recognition stages includes a plurality of voice recognition modules and multiples ones of the voice recognition stages perform a different type of voice recognition processing, wherein the first voice recognition stage processes the first plurality of voice inputs to generate a first plurality of outputs for receipt by a subsequent voice recognition stage. The method further includes, receiving by each subsequent voice recognition stage a plurality of outputs from a preceding voice recognition stage, wherein a plurality of final outputs is generated by a final voice recognition stage from which to approximate the first phrase.
