The present disclosure generally relates to machine vision systems, illumination sources for use in machine vision systems, and components for use in the illumination sources. More specifically, the present disclosure relates to machine vision systems incorporating multi-function illumination sources, multi-function illumination sources, and components for use in multi-function illumination sources.

A compound lens and a related method of manufacture are provided. The compound lens includes a first lens element and a second lens element such that a light emitting surface of the first lens element is integrally joined to a light receiving surface of the second lens element, the first and second lens element being in optical alignment with each other. The first and second lens element are molded from optical grade silicone and can achieve complex illumination objectives not possible with single lens constructions. The method of manufacture includes injecting a silicone resin molding compound into a mold cavity having the desired shape of the compound lens. The method of manufacture can include over-molding a lens holding member onto the compound lens and adding electro-optically active particles to a surface of the compound lens or to the silicone resin forming the compound lens.

Compound lens for use with illumination sources in optical systems

Machine vision systems are provided. More specifically, machine vision systems are provided that incorporate polarized illumination and detection. Polarized electromagnetic radiation may be used to reduce glare and enable increased flashing speed in machine vision detection systems. Ultra-high power light sources, heat tolerant polarizing media and optical-path systems may be coupled with ultra-high speed flashing systems to enable increased web-speed while maintaining necessary accuracy in web-scanning operations.

Machine vision systems incorporating polarized electromagnetic radiation emitters

Clips are provided to secure optic element systems to a printed circuit board. Associated mounting systems may, for example, eliminate direct adhesion of an optic element to an associated illumination source (e.g., LED). Thereby, thermal management of the system may be improved, adding flexibility in, for example, mounting height and tilt of an optic element. Thus, manufacturing cost, associated with mounting optic elements to L.E.D. arrays, may be reduced. Associated mounting systems may enable a direct electrical connection from a printed circuit to, for example, optical path control elements embedded within an optic element using, for example, various electro-optical control technologies.
