In a gas turbine having a chordal hinge seal between an inner rail of each nozzle segment and an annular axially facing sealing surface of a nozzle support ring, a supplemental seal is disposed between the support ring and inner rail of the nozzle segment on a high pressure side of the chordal hinge seal. The supplemental seal includes a sheet metal seal supported by a bracket secured to the back side and radial inner surfaces of the inner rail. The sheet metal seal has a flexible margin which is preloaded and bears against the annular sealing surface of the nozzle support ring. The bracket is bolted or welded to the inner rail with the sheet metal seal therebetween inhibiting or precluding leakage past the back side of the supplemental seal.

Supplemental seal for the chordal hinge seal in a gas turbine

The trailing edge of a turbine bucket is cut back from a root portion of the bucket to a location 50-75% of the span of the bucket. The cutback portion is tapered, forming an obtuse angle between it and the remaining original portion of the trailing edge outwardly of the cutback portion. A new conical section is thus created of a slightly larger conical and, hence, transverse configuration. The crack is removed upon removal of the material forming the cutback. With the edges of the recreated conical section surrounded, the cutback portion assumes a scalloped configuration with the exit openings of the cooling holes as seen from opposite sides of the bucket.

Method of forming a trailing edge cutback for a turbine bucket

A liner assembly for a combustor used in connection with a gas turbine is disclosed. The liner assembly comprises a double-wall structure including an outer structural shell and a separate throat insert coupled to and situated in the shell. The throat insert has a reduced throat section which divides the outer shell into upstream and downstream chambers. The upstream end of the throat insert is flexibly coupled in a stationary position to the outer shell by integral fingers and the downstream end is flexibly coupled to the outer shell, preferably by an air seal incorporating a plurality of flexible fingers located at the downstream end of the throat insert.
