Adaptive system for communicating with a customer in a retail store environment includes a sensor disposed at a sensor location in a retail environment. The sensor location is selected so that the sensor captures information that facilitates identification of at least one trait associated with a customer located proximate to the sensor location. A processing system is configured to use the information to determine the at least one trait. Thereafter, in response to such determination, the processing system selectively determines a message or content selection to be displayed to the customer based at least in part on the at least one trait that has been identified.

An EAS pedestal system includes a video display device and a video camera supported on an EAS pedestal housing. The video camera is oriented to facilitate capture of video images. The video images include facial images associated with a plurality of human faces under conditions where the human faces are positioned to observe the video display device. The system applies an analytical process to determine when an imaged human face is looking toward the video display device. The system then determines one or more human demographic traits based on the facial images and adaptively selects advertising content to be displayed based on information derived from the analytical process.

A method and device for protecting an article, wherein the security device has belt having a latch mating element. A magnetically actuable locking mechanism has a magnetically actuable latch and a flexible element. The magnetically actuable latch includes a lower surface having at least one protrusion extending there from and adapted to engage with the latch mating element of the belt, and a front surface adjacent the lower surface. The front surface has a lateral notch formed therein. The flexible element biases the magnetically actuable latch and the belt into a locked position. A housing has the magnetically actuable latch disposed therein and housing includes a passageway therein defining a belt pathway configured to slidingly receive the belt therein.

An EAS antenna having uniform antenna thickness along the antenna height is provided. The antenna is contains at least two overlapping coils where the individual coil cross-sections are variable with respect to the circumference. If the individual coil thickness is halved at the overlap, the antenna will have uniform thickness along the antenna height. This is accomplished by reducing the number of wire turns per layer along one or more sections of the coil, and simultaneously increasing the number of wire layers on the same sections.
