A rotomolding composition comprises a blend of two polyethylenes: 1) a well stabilized polyethylene; and 2) a poorly stabilized polyethylene having a very low flow rate. The poorly stabilized polyethylene is further characterized by having a large particle size (from 500 to 3000 microns). Rotomolded parts prepared from the composition have a rough inner surface. Polyurethane foam adheres well to this rough surface.

Rotomolding composition

Polyethylene blends made from recycled polyethylene and a bimodal polyethylene composition are disclosed. The polyethylene blends are suitable for compression molding or injection molding applications and are particularly useful in the manufacture of caps and closures for bottles.

A polymer suitable for use in a thin film hinge (living hinge) comprising from about 0.1 to about 5 weight % of a Ccomonomer and the balance ethylene, said composition having a density as determined according to ASTM D 792 from about 0.945 to about 0.965 g/cm; a melt index as determined according to ASTM D1238 (2.16 kg/190&#xb0; C.) from about 10 to about 20 g/10 min; a weight average molecular weight (Mw) from about 45,000 to about 55,000 g/mol; a polydispersity from about 2.5 to about 3.1 and when molded into a strip having a length of about 13 cm and gross thickness from about 50 to about 70 mil (about 1 to about 2 mm) and completely bent over end to end four times to create a thinned region or crease having a thickness from about 15 to about 30 mil (about 0.3 to about 0.7 mm) tested by bending and releasing the deformed thinned region of the strip through a radius of curvature from about 180 to about 190&#xb0; about a rounded plate goes through not less than 500 cycles without breaking.

Hinge polymer

Rotomolded polyethylene containers that are used to store sulfuric acid can become discolored on the interior surface which is in contact with the acid. This problem may be mitigated by the use of an additive package that contains two primary antioxidants.

Acid resistant polyethylene containers

Polyethylene living hinges used in 'snap top' lids for condiments and the like may be electron bean irradiated to partially crosslink the polyethylene to produce a hinge having an improvement in the number of opening and closing cycles until failure of not less than 30%. The irradiated lids may be used in place of polypropylene lids for condiment containers.

A plastic may be selected for a thin web application by finite element analysis of the part including the properties, including Poission's ratio of potential polymers from which the part may be made and subjecting the computer model of the part to loads to determine the deflection of the part under a specified series of loads or when the part breaks or subjecting the part to a number of use cycles to determine when the part fails. The process is iteratively repeated for each plastic and the results are compared to select a preferred plastic for the part.

Novel polyethylene copolymer compositions prepared with a homogeneous catalyst system are characterized by having a unique high molecular weight, low comonomer (high density) fraction. These heterogeneous/homogeneous compositions may be prepared using a solution polymerization process in which the polymerization reactor contains a gradient in temperature, catalyst concentration or monomer concentration. The heterogeneous/homogeneous compositions of this invention are easily processed into films having excellent tear strengths and low hexane extractables.
