An electronic device may include communications circuitry, sensing circuitry, and a set of antennas having first and second feeds for covering different polarizations. The communications circuitry may transmit signals with a first polarization using each of the antennas and may concurrently transmit signals with a second polarization using all but a selected one of the antennas. The sensing circuitry may concurrently transmit sensing signals with the first polarization using one of the antennas and may receive sensing signals with the second polarization using the selected antenna. The sensing signals may include chirp signals generated to include muted periods that correspond to a range of frequencies that overlap frequencies at which the wireless circuitry is subject to radio-frequency interference. This may allow for concurrent wireless communications and sensing operations without interference between the communications circuitry and the sensing circuitry.

This disclosure relates to techniques for performing ranging wireless communication in a secure manner. A first wireless device may receive a plurality of independent sequences from a second wireless device. The first wireless device may perform a combined channel estimate using the sequences. The first wireless device may estimate the distance (or angle/direction, among various possibilities) between the two devices based on the combined channel estimate.

Channel estimation combining for secure time of flight applications

Embodiments for accurately performing time of flight estimations are provided. These embodiments include using a first wireless device to monitor a wireless link and subsequently generate a wireless link estimation based on the monitoring. The embodiments also include deriving a correction metric based on the generated wireless link estimation and transmitting the correction metric from the first wireless device to a second wireless device. The second wireless device may then calculate a time of arrival of a first signal received from the first wireless communication device and correct any errors associated with the time of arrival calculation using the received correction metric. Further, the second wireless device may transmit the corrected time of arrival back to the first wireless device, such that the first wireless device can use the corrected time of arrival to estimate the time of flight of the first signal.

Time of flight estimation using an asymmetric scheme

A method and system for an improved communication mode for Bluetooth wireless devices is disclosed. Packets used in the improved communication mode are encoded using a convolutional encoder and transmitted with a particular modulation index such that the improved communication mode provides an improved link margin with respect to a communication mode specified in a Bluetooth wireless communication protocol. In this regard, the improved communication mode allows Bluetooth wireless devices to continue to communicate when a communication link between the Bluetooth wireless devices degrades, whereas otherwise the connection would be dropped. Furthermore, the Bluetooth wireless devices seamlessly switch between the improved communication mode and other Bluetooth communication modes without renegotiating the connection.

Embodiments described herein relate to a system and method for improving a rate of success in receiving response packets, such as 802.11 Acknowledge (ACK), Block Acknowledge (BACK), and Clear-To-Send (CTS) packets. In one embodiment, a wireless device may transmit one or more first packets according to a wireless communication protocol, and may then receive a second packet. The wireless device may determine that the receiving follows the transmitting by a specific duration of time that is specified by the wireless communication protocol for a response packet to follow one or more communication packets to which it responds. Based at least in part on this determining, the wireless device may further determine that the second packet is a response packet responding to the one or more first packets, without decoding a portion of the second packet that identifies a packet type of the second packet.

Robust decoding of wireless LAN response packets

A modified Viterbi algorithm, that integrates decision feedback equalization (DFE), is disclosed. The modified algorithm may be used especially for rate &#xbd; coded transmissions through additive noise channels, where the additive noise is one-tap filtered noise. Each state in the presently-disclosed trellis holds an aggregate error and an aggregate weight of the winner path terminating at that state. Each branch of the trellis carries one or more aggregate errors, where each of the aggregate errors includes a contribution from the aggregate error of the branch's source state as well as a contribution from the difference between an expected symbol of the branch and a corresponding received symbol.

Integration of Viterbi algorithm with decision feedback equalization

System and method for tuning transmission parameters based on estimated ratio between a signal to an estimated interference plus noise (SINR) of a user, in a multiple-user multiple-input multiple-output (MU-MIMO) communication system, the method including obtaining channel state information (CSI) related to a channel from an access point (AP) to users that participate in a next MU-MIMO transmission, wherein the AP, and the users pertain to the MU-MIMO communication system, obtaining error coefficients related to errors related to channel-ageing and to estimation noise of the CSI, and calculating the estimated SINR, wherein the estimated interference is related to power of the other users and to the estimated channel magnitude the user u, and to the error coefficients, wherein the estimated channel magnitude is derived from the CSI.
