A mine simulation system includes a magnetic field disturbance sensing apparatus carried by a moving vehicle and a plurality of randomly distributed passive permanent magnetic field disturbing devices located on the ground and simulated as mines. The sensing apparatus detects a magnetic field disturbance caused by the presence of any one of the passive permanent magnetic field disturbing devices when the vehicle comes into proximity of one passive permanent magnetic field disturbing device. A method for training personnel in mine field action can use this mine simulation system by entering the training vehicle into an area where the magnetic field of the earth has been disturbed by the presence of the passive permanent magnetic field disturbance device. When the training vehicle comes into proximity of one passive permanent magnetic field disturbance device, an output voltage is generated in the sensing apparatus detectable by a personnel being trained.

Apparatus for activating different types of magnetic trigger mechanism employed by different types of magnetic mine. The magnetic trigger activating apparatus includes apparatus for modifying the magnetic field sensed by each different type of magnetic trigger mechanism in a predetermined varying manner, thereby causing activation of each different type of magnetic trigger mechanism and thus detonation of each different type of magnetic mine when the apparatus for modifying is at least a predetermined minimum distance therefrom.

A vehicle mountable seismo-magnetic mine detonation system having apparatus, associable with a vehicle, for providing a seismic signal which, when sensed by a seismomagnetic mine, causes at least arming thereof when the vehicle is at at least a predetermined distance from the mine; and apparatus, associable with the vehicle, for modifying the magnetic field sensed by apparatus forming part of the seismomagnetic mine so as to at least cause arming thereof when the vehicle is at at least a predetermined distance from the mine, the apparatus for providing and apparatus for modifying cooperating so as to cause detonation of the mine at at least a predetermined distance from the mine without causing unacceptable damage to the vehicle or to its occupants.
