In an illustrative embodiment, systems and apparatus for limiting acceleration of medical equipment dropped to a location of an emergency medical event include one or more protection elements for protecting the medical equipment against impact forces that may damage the equipment. The protection elements may include one or more elements configured to reduce acceleration of the medical equipment while dropping to the location. The protection elements may include one or more elements configured to absorb impact forces to reduce the forces realized by the medical equipment. The medical equipment may be dropped to the location by an unmanned aerial vehicle.

Limiting acceleration of a medical device dropped to the location of an emergency medical event

Systems and methods related to the field of cardiac resuscitation, and in particular to devices for assisting rescuers in performing cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) are described herein. The system includes a chest compression device having force sensing capabilities, for providing feedback in enhancing the quality of acute care. The force sensor(s) may exhibit varying resolutions over different dynamic force ranges, for example, to provide information helpful to the resuscitative treatment. Chest compression devices that are able to sense force may be able to assist a system in providing accurate chest compression depth and rate information, as well as assess the amount of work exerted by one or more rescuers during the course of resuscitation. Force sensors described herein may employ relatively inexpensive components, such as pressure sensors, emitters, optical detectors, simple circuit boards, springs, compliant/resilient materials, electrically resistive layers, force-sensitive materials, amongst other suitable parts.

A flow sensor system for ventilation treatment comprises a flow conduit configured to allow gas flow between a first region and a second region, the flow conduit defining a lumen for the gas flow; a flow restrictor disposed within the lumen of the flow conduit between the first region and the second region; a first absolute pressure sensor disposed adjacent to the first region of the flow conduit and configured to measure a pressure of the gas flow at the first region of the flow conduit; and a second absolute pressure sensor disposed adjacent to the second region of the flow conduit and configured to measure pressure of the gas flow at the second region of the flow conduit.

A system for facilitating resuscitation includes: a first electrode assembly having a therapy side and a first motion sensor; a second electrode assembly having a therapy side and a second motion sensor; processing circuitry operatively connected to and programmed to receive and process signals from the first and second motion sensors to estimate at least one of a chest compression depth and rate during administration of chest compressions and to compare the chest compression depth or rate to a desired range; and an output device for providing instructions to a user to administer chest compressions based on the comparison of the estimated chest compression depth or rate to the desired range. One or both of the electrode assemblies may be constructed so that the conductive therapeutic portion is able to maintain substantial conformance to the anatomy of the patient when coupled thereto. For example, at least a portion of the flexible electrode pad may be able to flex from a more rigid sensor housing, or the sensor housing itself may be relatively small compared to the flexible electrode pad so as not to cause lift off of the therapeutic side from the patient.

A chest compression monitor for measuring the depth of chest compressions achieved during CPR. A sensor of the chest compression monitor is disposed within its housing such that compression of the housing due to CPR compressions, and its resultant deformation, is detected by the sensor and used by the control system as the starting point for calculating chest compression depth based on an acceleration signal indicative of the downward displacement of the chest.

A shared resource medical system for monitoring a patient during emergency situations includes a portable defibrillator and an ultrasound transducer physically and communicatively coupled to the defibrillator. The defibrillator includes sensors, a display screen, a power supply, a data storage device, and a defibrillator processor operatively coupled to the screen, the power supply, and the storage device and configured to receive and process user input, receive patient physiological data from the sensors, and generate an interface on the display screen. The ultrasound transducer is configured to obtain ultrasound physiological data of the patient and send the ultrasound physiological data to the defibrillator processor. The defibrillator processor receives and processes the ultrasound physiological data from the ultrasound transducer to generate an ultrasound image for the patient, stores the patient physiological data from the sensors together with the ultrasound image in the storage device, and presents the image on the user interface.
