In a fuel-fired water heater with a standing pilot burner and a motorized flue damper, a specially designed controller is utilized to prevent overheating of water stored in the tank portion of the water heater caused by the hot combustion gases continuously generated by the pilot burner during standby periods of the water heater in which its main fuel burner is not being fired. The controller has a selectively variable water temperature control set point temperature and is operable to sense both ambient temperature and the tank water temperature and to open the flue damper and/or keep it open, after the main burner is off, in response to the presence for a predetermined continuous time period of a predetermined relationship of at least the selected temperature control set point temperature and the sensed ambient temperature.

Flue damper control algorithm for standing pilot type fuel-fired water heater

A device for controlling a combustible gas supply to a burner is provided, which includes first and second servovalves, having respective valve seats associated with a corresponding shut-off mechanism, which include respective first and second control solenoid valves with an electromagnetic operating device that controls the opening/closing of the corresponding servovalve. The solenoid valves act to indirectly control the corresponding servovalve's respective shut-off mechanism. The pipes of the control are in communication with the main pipe through an auxiliary bleed pipe. A pilot pipe is branched from the auxiliary pipe to supply a pilot burner, and a thermoelectric magnetic unit with a knob is provided on the auxiliary pipe, which allows gas to flow towards the pilot burner when the unit is activated, while simultaneously shutting off the flow of gas towards the servovalve control circuit. The device includes a control mechanism, controlled by the knob, which controls gas flow.

Device for controlling the supply of a combustible gas to a burner apparatus

The device comprises a safety valve with an actuator which can be armed manually, a regulation valve disposed in a duct downstream of the safety valve for supplying a main burner, a tapping duct for supplying a pilot burner, and a flame detector for the pilot burner for supplying the actuator of the safety valve with sufficient energy to hold the safety valve open after manual arming has taken place and the pilot light has been lit. In order also to supply another burner without compromising the safety of the device, an on/off valve provided in a duct branching off the main duct between the safety valve and the regulation valve has an operating member coupled to the manual arming member of the actuator of the safety valve for keeping the on/off valve in a condition in which it shuts off the branch duct during the manual arming of the safety-valve actuator.

Control device for gas burners

A valve unit comprises a single electromagnetic actuator for controlling both an ON-OFF valve for cutting off the gas and a modulation valve; the latter is subject to independent resilient loads for regulating the minimum pressure delivered and for regulating the pressure up to the maximum pressure at the modulation stage.
