A method, including: growing, with a computer, an adaptive structure-oriented operator from a central computation location within seismic data using at least one of dip lateral variations, strike lateral variations, dip vertical variations, or strike vertical variations.

Adaptive structure-oriented operator

A workflow is presented that facilitates defining geocontextual information as a set of rules for multiple seismic attributes. Modeling algorithms may be employed that facilitate analysis of multiple seismic attributes to find candidate regions that are most likely to satisfy the set of rules. These candidates may then be sorted based on how well they represent the geocontextual information.

Context based geo-seismic object identification

A seismic signal is represented as a combination of a geologic signal and a noise signal. The representation of the seismic signal is decomposed into a linear combination of orthonormal components. One or more components are identified in which the geologic signal and the noise signal are uncorrelated. The noise signal is expanded as a product of an unknown noise amplitude modulation signal and a known noise spatial periodicity signal at the identified components. The expansion is solved for an estimate of the noise amplitude modulation signal at the identified components. The noise signal is estimated by multiplying the estimated noise amplitude modulation signal by the noise spatial periodicity signal. The estimated noise signal can be removed from the seismic signal to generate an estimate of the geologic signal.

Method for estimating and removing artifact noise from seismic data

A multi-trace geometric attribute of a regularly gridded surface is calculated at multiple scales, wherein, first, a window size is selected. Next, a set of the grid points is defined defining grid cells of the selected window size. Next, the geometric attribute is calculated using the traces at the set of the grid points. Next, the above selecting and calculating steps are repeated for sets of the grid points defining grid cells of different window sizes. Finally, the window size is determined whose calculations best represent the geometric attribute.

Method for characterization of multi-scale geometric attributes

A method for quantitatively measuring lateral continuity at a specified subsurface location from seismic data. The seismic data trace nearest to the specified location is designated as the reference trace. Next, all data traces falling within a specified distance from the reference trace are extracted from the data, and one or more statistics which measure the similarity between each trace and the reference trace are calculated. Only the portions of the traces falling within the target formation are considered. Preferably, the statistics should permit comparison of both the temporal and atemporal behaviors of the traces. The results are compared to objective significance tests to determine whether each trace is the same as or different from the reference trace.
