Disclosed herein is an oxygen scavenging composition for containers. The oxygen scavenging composition for containers may comprise at least one polyester component, a transition metal catalyst, an oxygen scavenger, and a vegetable oil. The vegetable oil preferably comprises at least one molecule having a double allylic structure. The polyester component preferably comprises at least one acid unit and at least one diol unit. The concentration of double allylic structures of the vegetable oil in the composition may be greater than 5.0 meq/kg of all of the polyester components. The oxygen scavenger is preferably present in the composition at a level less than 1.0% by weight of the total composition. The vegetable oil is preferably present in the composition at a level greater than 0.3% by weight relative to the total weight of the polyester components, the transition metal catalyst and the vegetable oil.

Oxygen scavenging polyester compositions for containers

The present invention is to a composition made from a polyester produced by the acid or ester polyester process, a cobalt salt and a base, preferably an alkaline metal base. The composition can be made by blending a cobalt salt with a polyester which has been polymerized in the presence a alkaline metal ion derived from a basic alkaline metal compound, e.g. alkaline metal base or basic alkaline metal salt. The composition may optionally comprise an ionic compatibilizer, which may further be blended with a partially aromatic polyamide. This blend can be processed into a container having both active and passive oxygen barrier with an improved color and clarity than that achieved by cobalt alone. The use of the cobalt salt in combination with the base can also be used to improve the color of recycled polyester during processing.

Described herein are oxygen scavengers, oxygen scavenging polymeric compositions, and oxygen scavenging articles. The polymeric compositions comprising the oxygen scavengers may have utility in packaging, sealing, wrapping, and storing oxygen-sensitive substances, e.g., to preserve freshness of foods, beverages, and the like.

Disclosed herein is an oxygen scavenging composition for containers. The oxygen scavenging composition may comprise at least one polyester component, which is a copolyester containing a metal sulfonate salt group, a transition metal catalyst, and a vegetable oil. The vegetable oil may comprise at least one molecule having a double allylic structure. The copolyester containing a metal sulfonate salt group may comprise at least one acid unit and at least one diol unit. The concentration of the double allylic structures of the vegetable oil in the composition may be greater than 5.0 meq/kg of all of the polyester components. The composition may also be void of or substantially void of a polyamide.

Disclosed herein is a preform having a preform wall. The preform wall preferably comprises a composition comprising at least one polyester component, a transition metal catalyst, and a vegetable oil. The vegetable oil may comprise at least one molecule having a double allylic structure. The at least one polyester component may comprise at least one acid unit and at least one diol unit. The concentration of double allylic structures of the vegetable oil in the composition may be greater than 5.0 meq/kg of all of the polyester components. The preform has improved aesthetic characteristics.

Disclosed herein is a resin pellet and a process to make said resin pellet. The resin pellet comprises a major polyester comprising a catalytic titanium compound, and a minor polyester comprising a phosphorus compound. The major polyester is present in a first compartmentalized zone of the resin pellet and the minor polyester is present in a second compartmentalized zone of the resin pellet.

A polyester resin for use in a process in which, during an expansion step, an incompressible fluid is injected through an opening of a preform, formed of the polyester resin, to form a container. The polyester resin includes a crystallizable polyester polymer wherein the polyester polymer is comprised of acid moieties and glycol moieties, with at least 85% of the total moles of acid moieties being terephthalate derived from terephthalic acid or its dimethyl ester and at least 85% of the total moles of glycol moieties derived from ethylene glycol. At least 2% of the total moles of acid plus glycol moieties are derived from a primary comonomer with the mole percents of the acid plus glycol moieties totaling 100 mole %.

Highly modified polyesters for containers

This specification discloses a composition of a melt blend comprising a continuos polyester phase, a cobalt of manganese compound and a first scavenging compound wherein the first scavenging compound comprises at least one allylic group and at least one polar moiety and at least some of the first scavenging compound or the oligomer or the polymer comprising the first scavenging compound is not present in the continuous polyester phase. The partial insolubility is essential for oxygen scavenging and the solubility is essential for reducing haze. The composition is useful in preforms, container walls, and films for packaging.

A polymer composition, stretched and unstretched articles and processes to make stretched and unstretched articles from that composition are set forth wherein the composition comprises a blend of a polyamide wherein the amino to carboxyl end group ratio of the polyamide polymer is less than 1.0 when the relative viscosity of the polyamide polymer is less than 2.0, and less than 0.30 when the relative viscosity is in the range of 2.0 to 2.3 and less than 0.20 when the relative viscosity is greater than 2.3, a crystallizable polyester and an interfacial tension reducing agent.
