A method of determining an environment wherein a mobile terminal of a mobile radiocommunication network is situated, the mobile terminal being associated to an identifier. The method includes: i) retrieving the identifier; ii) retrieving at least one technical feature of the mobile terminal according to the identifier, the one technical feature being related to the capability of the mobile terminal of receiving a radio signal; iii) taking a measurement indicative of a quality of the radio signal at the mobile terminal; and iv) applying to the measurement an operation for determining the environment, the operation depending on at least one parameter, wherein the method further includes, before step iv), v) adjusting at least one of the at least one parameter and the measurement according to the at least one technical feature.

A method of acquisition of a received signal received from a global navigation satellite system, includes: obtaining a snapshot of the received signal; correlating the snapshot with a locally-generated signal, wherein the correlating includes: trying a phase delay value indicative of a hypothesized phase delay of the locally-generated signal with respect to the snapshot; and obtaining a partition of the snapshot and the locally-generated signal into corresponding pluralities of blocks, and calculating partial correlation integrals for each block of the plurality of blocks. The corresponding pluralities of blocks each include a first block having a time duration related to the phase delay value.

Method for the acquisition of signals of a global navigation satellite system

A method for fixing a position of a user apparatus includes the step of starting a fixing session and, within the fixing session, determining a size of a snapshot of a signal of a positioning system depending on the receiving conditions of the signal at the user apparatus, the snapshot being capable of enabling the fixing of the position; receiving, at network equipment, from the user apparatus via a network connection the snapshot; and fixing at the network equipment the position of the user apparatus on the basis of the snapshot.

Method and system for mobile network aided positioning

The location of a mobile terminal in a given area is determined by including the mobile terminal both in a satellite-based positioning system and in a cellular communications system. The mobile terminal is thus adapted to receive satellite signals from the satellite-based system and to be covered by at least one cell of the cellular communications system. The mobile terminal is configured for determining at least approximately its coordinates, including an altitude coordinate in the area, based on both satellite signals received from the satellite-based system and information related to the cellular communications system. An estimate of the altitude coordinate is derived from the information related to the cellular communications system, whereby satisfactory location performance is ensured also when one or more satellites in the satellite-based system are not visible at the mobile terminal.
