A method for analyzing the status of a subscriber loop belonging to an access network portion of a fixed network infrastructure, the subscriber loop not supporting a broadband service wherein the access network portion includes further subscriber loops, a set of which support broadband services. The method includes the steps of collecting attenuation measures associated with said set of subscriber loops supporting said broadband services; and processing said attenuation measures to obtain an estimation of a maximum bit rate that can be offered on the subscriber loop to be analyzed.

The local network comprises a plurality of active nodes (N1 . . . Nn) placed along a folded unidirectional bus (1) which presents a writing branch (1W) and a reading branch (1R). The nodes present means (RR) for network reconfiguration in the presence of a failure, through an isolation of the parts concerned by the failure, through an isolation of the parts concerned by the failure, and for regular service restoration after the repair, and means (GA) for the implementation of an ordered access protocol, which is based on the physical position of the nodes (N1 . . . Reconfigurable high-speed integrated local network

A bidirectional transmission system with echo cancellation allows simultaneous interchange of digital information between an exchange and subscribers on a single transmission line. Data flows are transmitted by packets separated by short silence intervals within which clock signals are extracted and echo-cancellation adjustment is accomplished. Use of an adaptive equalizer and a single sampling operation per sampling period are possible.
