A gas turbine unit as well as a method for operating a gas turbine with high-pressure turbine and a low-pressure turbine unit are disclosed. A very quick and at the same time easily controllable augmentation or reduction of the shaft power of the gas turbine unit can be achieved by providing at least one liquid droplet injection device on the upstream side of said compressor for injecting liquid into the stream of intake air in order to increase the shaft power generated by the gas turbine unit. The amount of water mass flow corresponding to the desired increase or decrease of shaft power output of the gas turbine unit is added or reduced in the form of liquid droplets in a substantially stepless manner and immediately within a time interval that is determined by the design characteristics of the liquid droplet injection device.

Method and apparatus for achieving power augmentation in gas turbine using wet compression

A gas turbine unit and method of operation thereof are disclosed. A very quick and easily controllable augmentation or reduction of shaft power produced by the gas turbine unit, in particular of large gas turbine units exhibiting a pressure ratio larger than 15 bar, is achieved by providing at least one liquid droplet injection device on the upstream side of the compressor for injecting liquid into the stream of intake air. The injection device allows the addition of liquid mass flow in the form of liquid droplets corresponding to the desired increase of shaft power. The amount of water mass flow corresponding to the desired increase or decrease of shaft power output is added or reduced in a substantially stepless manner immediately within a time interval determined by design characteristics of the injection device. Water mass flow is preferentially injected substantially across the entire cross-section of the intake air guide.

A fogging device () for introducing water and/or vapor into an intake air flow () of a gas turbine () includes a sound-absorbing device (). This device may in particular be designed in the form of Venturi tubes (), the water () being fed to the air flow () via nozzles () arranged at the narrowest location. In this way, the spraying of water for increasing the power output or for generally regulating the gas turbine can at the same time be combined with a silencer, and this in a comparatively simple construction.

In a premix burner, the swirl-stabilized interior space (18) has a conical inner body (13) running in the direction of flow. The outer casing of the interior space (18) is pierced by tangentially arranged air-inlet ducts (11a, 12a) through which a combustion-air flow (16) flows into the interior space (18). The swirl flow (23) forming in the interior space (18) is enriched with a fuel via at least one fuel lance (17). The mixture of the two media is then formed in the downstream mixing tube (21). The mixing tube (21) then merges into a combustion space (31) via a jump in cross section, a backflow zone (32) forming in the region of the plane of the jump in cross section, which backflow zone (32) ensures the stability of the combustion.

In a gas/steam power station plant, which consists essentially of at least one fossil-fired internal combustion engine (2), at least one steam circuit (1) and at least one heat exchanger (3), the heat exchanger (3) connected downstream of the internal combustion engine (2) is fed with exhaust gases (27) from the internal combustion engine (2). Together with a number of steam turbines (12, 13), the steam circuit 1 has a generator (14), a series of other auxiliary units (15, 16) and a water-cooled reactor (11) which produces an amount of saturated steam (B) from an amount of preheated feed water (C) treated in the heat exchanger (3) and fed to it. This amount of saturated steam is thereupon fed to a superheat stage (A) in the heat exchanger (3), where the actual final treatment of the steam takes place.
