User interaction is provided for a medical imaging system. The user interacts with the display rather than programmed buttons. The context between the user input and the display, such as identifying user selection of a bottom edge of a displayed image, is determined. The imaging system is controlled based on the context, such as altering the depth of imaging as the user drags the selected bottom edge up or down on the screen.

Disclosed herein is a method for the optimal design of an apodization function used for non-uniform weighted periodic sparse arrays for an ultrasound imaging system. The method includes the steps of (a) setting the interval Pof a transmit sparse array and the number Lof array elements within the interval Pso that common grating lobes are not generated in the beam patterns of the transmit sparse array and a receive sparse array; (b) setting the interval Pof the receive sparse array and the number Lof array elements within the interval Pso that common grating lobes are not generated in the beam patterns of the transmit sparse array and the receive sparse array; (c) setting a transmit apodization function WT(n) configured to be applied to the beam pattern of the transmit sparse array; and (d) setting a receive apodization function WR(n) configured to be applied to the beam pattern of the receive sparse array.

Method for optimal design of non-uniform weighted periodic sparse arrays for ultrasound imaging system

A method and apparatus for enabling a biopsy needle to be observed in a three-dimensional ultrasound diagnostic system using an interventional ultrasound system. The apparatus comprises an ultrasound transducer, a three-dimensional image-forming section, a section for extracting a target object, a location-calculating section, a display section, and a controller. The method comprises the steps of acquiring a two-dimensional ultrasound image of a subject; generating a three-dimensional volume image based on the two-dimensional ultrasound image; segmenting a target image, which corresponds to a target object within the subject, from the three-dimensional volume image; displaying a guide line of the biopsy guide on the segmented target image; extracting the segmented target image; acquiring information on a location of the biopsy needle by reference to the segmented target image; calculating an error based on the information; and displaying a guiding status of the biopsy needle based on the calculated error.
