There is provided a method of boosting a local dimming signal. In the method, it is determined whether or not local dimming signals, which are applied for individually driving light source blocks per frame, satisfy boosting conditions. Then, a predetermined local dimming signal corresponding to at least one of the light source blocks is boosted to a reference luminance value when the local dimming signals continuously satisfy the boosting conditions, and the boosting luminance of the predetermined local dimming signal at the reference luminance value is gradually decreased after a light adaptation time of an observer's eye. When the luminance of light source blocks that are boosted is gradually decreased before the light adaptation time or luminance of light source blocks that will be boosted is gradually increased to the light adaptation time, power consumption required to boost the light source blocks may be decreased.

A display panel test apparatus includes: an image pickup part which picks up an image from a target display panel; a jig including a receiving part which receives the target display panel, a fixing part which fixes the image pickup part, and an adjusting part which adjusts an image pickup angle of the image pickup part; a pattern generating part which provides the target display panel with a test pattern; a defect extracting part which analyzes test image data provided from the image pickup part using a defect extracting algorithm and extracts display defect information, where the defect extracting algorithm includes different settings corresponding to different types of display defects; and a control part which generates evaluated data corresponding to a viewing angle of the target display panel using the image pickup angle of the image pickup part and the display defect information.

Display panel test apparatus and method of testing a display panel using the same

A method of driving a light source includes converting a reference luminance value of the light source to a first just noticeable difference (JND) value. The JND value represents a minimum noticeable difference between two stimuli. A target luminance value lower than the reference luminance value is determined using the first JND value. A first driving signal applied to the light source is generated using the target luminance value so that a user may not notice a luminance change when a luminance value of a light source is decreased in order to decrease power consumption of a display apparatus.
