An apparatus and method for determining electrical characteristics has an acquisition circuit and a control circuit. The control circuit causes a first modulation circuit to issue a first set of modulated signals to a first source of alternating current energy, wherein the first set of modulated signals has a first deadtime and wherein a high side switch and a low side switch of the first modulation circuit are turned off. The control circuit further causes the acquisition circuit to acquire a first electrical characteristic of the first source of alternating current energy from the first source of alternating current energy during the first deadtime.

The logic is configured to compare the pulsed-width modulation signal and the other pulsed-width modulation signal to determine whether the voltage input has reached the cutoff voltage.

Under-voltage and over-voltage protection using a single comparator

A power limiter for a switched mode power supply includes an operational amplifier and a comparator circuit. The operational amplifier is configured to receive an input voltage supplied to the SMPS as a first input and a reference voltage as a second input. The comparator circuit is configured to receive an output of the operational amplifier, receive a current sense signal, and generate an output signal configured to control a power generator. The output signal is based on a comparison between the output of the operational amplifier and the current sense signal.
