A multiple-band antenna having first and second operating frequency bands is provided. The antenna includes a first patch structure associated primarily with the first operating frequency band, a second patch structure electrically coupled to the first patch structure and associated primarily with the second operating frequency band, a first slot structure disposed between a first portion of the first patch structure and the second patch structure and associated primarily with the first operating frequency band, and a second slot structure disposed between a second portion of the first patch structure and the second patch structure and associated primarily with the second operating frequency band. A mounting structure for the multiple-band antenna is also provided. The mounting structure includes a first surface and a second surface opposite to and overlapping the first surface.

Multiple-band antenna with patch and slot structures

A multiple-band antenna having first and second operating frequency bands is provided. The antenna includes a first patch structure associated primarily with the first operating frequency band, a second patch structure electrically coupled to the first patch structure and associated primarily with the second operating frequency band, a first slot structure disposed between a first portion of the first patch structure and the second patch structure and associated primarily with the first operating frequency band, and a second slot structure disposed between a second portion of the first patch structure and the second patch structure and associated primarily with the second operating frequency band. A mounting structure for the multiple-band antenna is also provided. The mounting structure includes a first surface and a second surface opposite to and overlapping the first surface. The first and second patch structures are mounted to the first surface, and a feeding point and ground point, respectively connected to the first and second patch structures, are mounted to the second surface.

A three-fold polarization diversity antenna comprises a slot-loaded patch, and a radiation member that is electromagnetically coupled to the slot-loaded patch. The radiation member extends through a plane of the slot-loaded patch.

A mobile wireless communications device may include a portable housing, a printed circuit board (PCB) carried within the portable housing, and wireless communications circuitry carried by the PCB within the portable housing. The device may also include a folded monopole antenna assembly coupled to the wireless communications circuitry. The folded monopole antenna assembly may include a dielectric body adjacent the PCB and having a generally rectangular shape defining opposing top and bottom faces, opposing first and second end faces, and opposing first and second side faces. The antenna may also include a conductive trace coupled to the wireless communications circuitry and having a first end section extending along the first end face, a second end section extending along the second end face, and an intermediate section extending along the top, bottom, first side and second side faces.

Mobile wireless communications device including a folded monopole multi-band antenna and related methods

Antenna apparatus, and an associated method, for a mobile station, or other radio device. A folded conducting strip is formed upon multiple sides of a cube-shaped, or other three-dimensional substrate of small dimensions. The conducting strip exhibits resonance at multiple frequencies, such as at frequencies encompassing the 800/900/1800/1900/2200 MHz frequencies. Because of the positioning of the conducting strip upon the multiple sides of the substrate, a conducting strip of increase length is provided while permitting the dimensional requirements of the antenna structure to be small. Multiple antennas are able to be positioned at the radio device to provide for multiple-input, multiple-output radio operation.

Antenna, and associated method, for a multi-band radio device

A mobile wireless communications device may include a portable housing, a printed circuit board (PCB) carried within the portable housing, and wireless communications circuitry carried by the PCB within the portable housing. Furthermore, a folded monopole antenna may be coupled to the wireless communications circuitry. The folded monopole antenna may include a dielectric body having a generally rectangular shape defining a bottom portion adjacent the PCB and a top portion opposite the bottom portion. The antenna may also include a conductive trace having a bottom loop adjacent the bottom portion of the dielectric body, a top loop adjacent the top portion of the dielectric body, and an intermediate wrap-around section extending around the dielectric body and between the bottom and top loops.

Mobile wireless communications device including multi-loop folded monopole antenna and related methods

A multi-band antenna includes a planar conductive layer that comprises a conductive region and a non-conductive region. The conductive region and the non-conductive region together define a first slot-strip structure, a second slot-strip structure coupled to the first slot-strip structure, and a third slot-strip structure coupled to the second slot-strip structure. The first slot-strip structure includes a signal feed portion. The second slot-strip structure includes a first signal grounding portion. The third slot-strip structure includes a second signal grounding portion.

A dual-band antenna includes a planar conductive layer comprising a conductive region and a central non-conductive region. The conductive region and the non-conductive region together define a pair of interconnected F-slot structures, and a loop strip structure coupled to and disposed around the F-slot patch slot antenna structures.

An antenna, and an associated methodology, for a portable radio device, such as a mobile station capable of operation at a plurality of frequency bands spread across a wide range of frequencies. The antenna includes a first antenna patch and a second antenna patch. The first antenna patch comprises an L-shaped patch disposed upon a substrate. A second antenna patch forms a folded patch formed of three contiguous portions, folded about fold lines in a manner to cause the second antenna patch to include a first contiguous portion that extends upwardly beyond the first antenna patch at an angle perpendicular thereto. Second and third contiguous portions are formed by folding additional portions of the second antenna patch about additional fold lines.

Multi-band antenna, and associated methodology, for a radio communication device

Antenna apparatus, and an associated methodology, for a multi-frequency-band-capable radio device, such as a quad-band mobile station. The antenna apparatus is formed from a three-dimensional rectilinear non-conductive dielectric antenna substrate, such as cube. An elongated radiation element is disposed over multiple surfaces of the antenna substrate. A T-shaped impedance matching element located at the end of the radiation element permits the antenna input impedance to be matched to a communications device. The length of the radiation element is selected to be substantially equal to a quarter wavelength of the lowest frequency band at which the antenna operates.

Multi-band antenna apparatus disposed on a three-dimensional substrate, and associated methodology, for a radio device

A hybrid slot-strip antenna apparatus, and an associated methodology, for a multi-mode mobile station or other radio device. The antenna is formed of a plurality of slot-strips disposed upon a printed circuit board, or other substrate. The antenna is defined by width and length design parameters, the selections of which are determinative of the antenna functionality. Through appropriate selection of the design parameters, the antenna is operable, that is, resonant, at each of the frequency bands of the multi-mode mobile station.

Slot-strip antenna apparatus for a radio device operable over multiple frequency bands

Antenna apparatus, and an associated methodology, for a multi-frequency-band-capable radio device, such as a quad-band mobile station. The antenna apparatus forms a hybrid strip antenna having a pair of resonant elements. A first resonant element forms a peripheral loop extending about the periphery of a substrate. A meander line extends along a portion of the peripheral loop. And, second resonant element is formed of an L-shaped strip. The peripheral loop is resonant at a set of frequencies, and the L-shaped strip is resonant at a single frequency. Through appropriate selection of the lengths of the resonant elements, the frequencies at which the elements are resonant are controlled.
