The present invention relates to a positive active material for a rechargeable lithium battery, a method of preparing the same, and a rechargeable lithium battery comprising the same. The positive active material includes a lithium/nickel-based compound wherein primary particles having an average particle diameter ranging from 1 &#x3bc;m to 4 &#x3bc;m are agglomerated to form secondary particles. The positive active material of the present invention has excellent electrochemical performance and outstanding inhibition to swelling at high temperatures.
