A tab coefficient updating device of an FIRADF capable of greatly reducing the amount of hardware therefor and integrating its tab coefficient updating value operating circuit using a simple circuit design. The tab coefficient updating device includes a finite impulse-responding adaptive digital filter unit for filtering an input signal using a tab coefficient updated for a predetermined one of all tabs by a tab coefficient signal and a tab address signal, and a tab address generating unit for generating the tab address signal associated with the predetermined tab of the finite impulse-responding adaptive digital filter unit and applying the generated tab address signal to a tab coefficient updating value operating unit as well as the finite impulse-responding adaptive digital filter unit. The tab coefficient updating value operating unit serves to receive the input signal and an error signal indicative of the difference between an output signal of the finite impulse-responding adaptive digital filter unit and a requirement signal and execute an operation of an updating value for only one, of the tab coefficients, designated by the tab address signal received from the tab address generating unit on the basis of the signals received therein.

Motion vector decoding apparatus and method for converting a variable length of a motion vector into an original one using a difference component of the motion vector. The motion vector decoding apparatus comprises an X-axis motion vector component decoder for decoding an X-axis component of the motion vector in response to first and second X-axis motion vector difference components, and a Y-axis motion vector component decoder for decoding a Y-axis component of the motion vector in response to first and second Y-axis motion vector difference components. According to the present invention, a compressed video signal can be restored rapidly and accurately in a variable length decoder.

Variable length decoding of motion vectors

A data output apparatus for a variable length decoder comprises a variable length decoding controller for outputting an address value, a general data enable signal and a video data enable signal in response to a variable length decoding control signal and a clock signal, a general data output unit for rearranging variable length-decoded general data in response to the general data enable signal and outputting the rearranged general data in response to the clock signal, and a video data output unit for rearranging variable length-decoded video data in response to the video data enable signal and outputting the rearranged video data in response to the clock signal. The general data output unit includes a selector for rearranging the variable length-decoded general data in response to a plurality of control signals, and a general data output controller for outputting the plurality of control signals to the selector in response to the general data enable signal. The video data output unit includes a selector for rearranging the variable length-decoded video data in response to a plurality of control signals, and a video data output controller for outputting the plurality of control signals to the selector in response to the video data enable signal, a video data escape active signal and a video data clear signal.
