The invention describes curable liquid acryloyl group containing compositions, which are produced by reacting monofunctional vinyl compounds and multifunctional acrylic esters with &#x3b2;-dicarbonyl group containing compounds having two activated hydrogen atoms in its methylene position. These material can be polymerized or crosslinked by free radical polymerization, UV (ultraviolet) or electron-beam radiation. The curable liquid compositions are suitable for producing curable coatings, printing inks, adhesives, or molding compositions.

Curable liquid acryloyl group containing resin composition

A curable resin composition which exhibits excellent hardness of their curing products as well as storage stability is provided, and a simple method to obtain acrylated resins is provided. Photoinitiator, novel compound, and photocurable composition

A novel compound represented by the general formula (I), and a nematic liquid crystal composition incorporating the same. A compound represented by the general formula (I) can be produced industrially extremely easily, as shown in the examples, displays superior compatibility with current general purpose host liquid crystals as a nematic phase, and also shows little crystal precipitation at low temperatures. Moreover, by addition of a small amount of such a compound to a host liquid crystal, the liquid crystal temperature range at low temperatures can be effectively widened without any significant worsening of the various characteristics of the liquid crystal material. Consequently, a compound of the present invention is an extremely useful liquid crystal material which is suitable for various liquid crystal display elements which require a broad operating temperature range.

Fused ring compound

A photocurable composition is provided which yields an excellent tack-free, hard cured product without any addition of photoinitiators. A photocurable composition which is excellent in storage stability is also provided. The photocurable composition contains a resin having an acryloyl group and a chemical structure element selected from the group consisting of &#x3b2;-diketone groups and &#x3b2;-ketoester groups, wherein the &#x3b2;-diketone group or the &#x3b2;-ketoester group has a tetra-substituted carbon atom between two carbonyl groups, which is capable of generating one or two free radicals under photoirradiation, and the photocurable composition does not increase more than 25% in viscosity when heated at 60&#xb0; C. for 5 days.

The present invention discloses a decahydronaphthalene derivative represented by general formula (I):a liquid crystal composition in which it is contained, and a liquid crystal device in which it is used. The novel decahydronaphthalene derivative of the present invention can be produced industrially extremely easily as shown in the examples, and by adding a small amount to a base liquid crystal, it is possible to have effects that expand the nematic phase temperature range, thereby improving its various characteristics as a nematic liquid crystal. Moreover, the novel decahydronaphthalene derivative of the present invention also has superior co-solubility with base liquid crystals generally used at present. Thus, it is suitable for various types of liquid crystal devices requiring a wide operating temperature range, and is extremely useful as a liquid crystal material.

Decahydronaphthalene derivative

A catalyst suitable for crosslinking reaction of a compound containing &#x3b1;,&#x3b2;-unsaturated carbonyl groups and a compound containing a CH-acidic methylene group is provided. A curable mixture comprises at least one compound containing at least two &#x3b1;,&#x3b2;-unsaturated carbonyl groups and at least one compound containing at least one CH-acidic methylene group and at least one trialkylphosphine.

The invention relates to: 4-methylene-1,3-dioxolanes of the general formula (I)wherein R1 denotes hydrogen, C-C-cycloalkyl or C-C-alkyl; m and n, which may be the same or different, denote 0 or 1, whereby m&#x2266;n, o denotes 2, 3 or 4 depending on the valency of the group X; and X denotes a C&#x2014;C single bond, straight-chain or branched C-C-alkylene, C-C-cycloalkylene, C-C-arylalkylene, &#x2014;CH(OCHCH)OCH&#x2014;, &#x2014;CH(OCH(CH)CH)OCH&#x2014;, wherein p is an integer from 0 to 100; a process for their production; and intermediate products used. Moreover, compositions capable of emission-free, photocationic cross-linking, which comprise 4-methylene-1,3-dioxolanes of the general formula (I) and their use for the production of solvent-resistant and transparent films.

A one-step polymerization process, leading directly to highly branched polyesters with unsaturated, either acrylate or sorbate end groups is described, which is based on the Diels-Alder reaction of polyfunctional sorbic esters with acrylates in defined ratios. A preferred embodiment of the invention is the Diels-Alder polymerization in aqueous emulsion.

The production is described of unsaturated polyesters, which exclusively contain maleate groups in their main chain, by the ring-opening polymerization of epoxides, such as glycidyl ethers, glycidyl esters and olefine epoxides, with &agr;,&bgr;-unsaturated anhydrides, preferably such as maleic anhydride, both on their own and in admixture with other cyclic anydrides, in the presence of a Zn carboxylate. The polyesters which are thus produced are characterized by high molecular weights and a narrow molecular weight distribution. Polymerization can be effected between 50 and 120&deg; C., but is preferably effected between 60 and 90&deg; C., either in the melt or in a solvent. Unsaturated reactive thinners, which after the addition of suitable radical initiators react thermally or photochemically with the polyesters to form lacquers, cast parts or fiber-reinforced composite materials, can also be employed as solvents. The preferred crosslinking agents for the polyesters are mono- and polyfunctional acrylates, methacrylates, vinyl ethers and vinyl esters. The polyesters can also be completely or partially isomerized, either thermally or by catalysis, to form polyesters which comprised fumarate groups in their main chain.
