A one- or two-dimensional arrangement of flow cells is provided, as part of an array of sample compartments, with at least one inlet and outlet for each sample compartment, formed by a base plate and a body, with an arrangement of spatial recesses corresponding to the (geometrical) arrangement of the sample compartments, combined with the base plate. The arrangement allows for supplying to or removing from the sample compartments, which can be arranged at a high quantity on a small base area, even very small amounts of samples or reagents. An arrangement of one or more sample compartments includes a base plate and a body combined with the base plate in such a way that one or more recesses for generation of one or more flow cells fluidically sealed against one another, each with at least one inlet and one outlet, are formed between the base plate and the body, wherein at least one outlet of each flow cell is joined with a reservoir fluidically connected with the flow cell, the reservoir being operable to receive liquid exiting the flow cell, besides methods for its manufacturing and their use.

A method for the ultrasensitive simultaneous measurement of nonlinear optical emission signals in one or two local dimensions wherein excitation light is irradiated in modulated form from at least one light source into an interactive space in which one or several emissions that are nonlinearly correlated with the excitement light can be excited. The light emanating from the interactive spaces is measured using a one or two-dimensional detector array. Measured data is then transmitted to a computer and formatted in a one or two-dimensional data matrix. Further, non-correlated portions of the light emanating from the interactive spaces that are linearly proportionate to the intensity of the excitement light available in the interactive spaces are separated from portions of the light emanating from the interactive spaces which are not linearly proportionate. The invention relates to an optical detection device for chemical analyses, comprising at least one light source, at least one photoelectric detection unit and at least one measuring cell, one or more optical paths coupled to the at least one measuring cell being formed between the light source(s) and the photoelectric detection unit(s). In the course of the miniaturization of such detection devices in arrays for the simultaneous detection of a plurality of analytes, according to the prior art edge-emitting semiconductor lasers that had been separated and applied to a substrate were used. Instead of the latter, the invention provides for surface-emitting semiconductor lasers to be used as light sources, which have the advantage of comparatively simple manufacture and of requiring substantially less space. The process of separating the lasers from the mother substrate and affixing them to a foreign substrate, which was necessary hitherto, is eliminated in the detection device according to the invention.
