Separator column () with at least one demister, such as a swirl deck (), crossing the flow path, and a coalescer deck () crossing the flow path upstream the demister. The coalescer deck carries at least one coalescer () comprising an uninterrupted coalescer tube () with an upstream open end (), a downstream open end (), and a swirler () between the two open ends. A direct flow path extends between a downstream edge of the coalescer tube and the demister.

Separator column

A heat integration system for removing heat of reaction from an EC-Reactor and generating Chilled liquid for use by one or more Consumer Units, in a catalytic process for producing EC from EO for conversion into MEG wherein the system comprises an EC-Reactor Cooler suitable for removing heat from an EC-Reactor, an Intermediate Loop which is in communication with the Reactor Cooler and with an absorption Refrigeration Unit, and which is suitable for conducting Intermediate liquid therebetween, the absorption Refrigeration Unit being suitable for generating Chilled liquid, and a Chilled liquid loop suitable for conducting Chilled liquid generated in the absorption Refrigeration Unit for use by one or more Consumer Units.

Heat integration

A separation tray, suitable for mounting in a vertical column, for separating liquid/gas mixtures. The separation tray has horizontal upper and lower walls and a plurality of primary separation devices for separating a fluid into a primary gas and a liquid-enriched secondary gas. The invention is characterized by a secondary separation zone located in the inner free space between the upper and lower walls and the primary separation devices. Liquid-enriched secondary gas is removed through outlets in the primary separation devices and guided downwardly by return skirts into the inner free space, whereupon the entrained liquid in the liquid-enriched secondary gas is substantially removed from the secondary gas.

Separation tray

A gas-liquid contacting tray suitable for horizontal mounting in a normally vertical column, which tray comprises a tray plate with substantially circular circumference and having top and bottom surfaces, which tray plate is provided with passages for gas between the bottom and the top surface, and on which tray plate two semi-circular tray sections are defined by a virtual diametrical line of the tray plate; and a total of three downcomers for guiding liquid from the top surface of the tray plate to below the tray, each downcomer extending from an inlet opening arranged in the tray plate to a downcomer outlet opening below the tray, wherein two of the downcomers are arranged in the corners of one of the semi-circular tray sections, and wherein the third downcomer is arranged on the other tray section substantially along a radius of the tray that is perpendicular to the diametrical line.

Gas-liquid contacting tray

A column for counter-currently contacting vapour and liquid comprising a plurality of horizontal contact trays arranged axially spaced apart in the column, each contact tray being provided with a vapour-liquid contacting area, a liquid receiving area, a downcomer area and an overflow weir between downcomer area and contact area, and which column is further provided with a plurality of horizontal separation trays, each separation tray being spatially arranged above a contact tray, said separation tray having means to separate entrained liquids from the upwardly moving vapour and means to return the thus separated liquid to a contact tray below, wherein the vapour-liquid contacting area is provided with atomiser means where in said atomiser means liquid can be dragged from a continuous liquid phase into a flow of vapour to form a dispersion of vapour and liquid droplets.

Column for counter-currently contacting vapor and liquid

Gas-liquid contacting tray having a bubble area and one or more rectangular downcomers which are longer in length than in width, which downcomers have two sloped downcomer walls along their length, a downcomer opening at tray level and one or more downward directed liquid discharge openings at the lower end, which downcomers are so positioned on the tray that bubble area is present at both of the longer sides, wherein the cross-sectional area at the lower end of the downcomer is less than 40% of the cross-sectional area of the upper end of the downcomer at tray level.

A gas-liquid contacting column is described with a number of axially spaced trays, each having two sections separated along a diametrical line on the tray, and having a number of parallel rectangular downcomers, open at the upper end and closed at the bottom end, which has a number of liquid discharge openings, and a number of liquid receiving areas with bubble area between them. The liquid receiving area is positioned just below the downcomer of a consecutive tray just above. The downcomers extend from the diametrical line to the circumferential of the tray such that the ends of the downcomers of the two tray sections are positioned along the diametrical line in an alternating manner, wherein the area of the liquid discharge openings per downcomer length as viewed from below and close to the diametrical line is less than that as viewed from below.

The invention relates to a gas-liquid contacting column having a number of axially spaced contacting trays, which trays have one or more liquid receiving areas and one or more downcomers, which liquid receiving areas and downcomers are spaced in a bubble area and which downcomer has at its upper end a liquid receiving opening and at its lower end one or more downward directed liquid discharging openings, which openings are positioned above the liquid receiving area of the consecutive lower contacting tray and positioned at more than 10% of the tray spacing above this liquid receiving area, wherein along the boundary of the liquid receiving area and the bubble area a weir is present.

Gas-liquid contacting column

Gas/liquid contact tray for use in a column for counter-currently contacting gas and liquid, which tray has a perforated panel of which the area is divided in two or more parallel sections wherein the odd numbered sections are provided with downcomers directed perpendicular to the direction of the section, wherein the bottoms of the downcomers are provided with lateral outflow openings directed in the direction of the sections, and wherein the bottom of each of the downcomers in the section(s) neighbouring the wall of the column is also provided with a frontal outflow opening directed in the direction of the wall.

Gas/liquid contact tray

Column (1) for counter-currently contacting gas and liquid having a gas inlet and a liquid outlet arranged in its lower end and a liquid inlet and a gas outlet arranged in its upper end, which column is provided with a plurality of horizontal contact trays (5, 6, 7, 8) arranged axially spaced apart in the column (1), each contact tray (5, 6, 7, 8) being provided with gas passages and a downcomer (10, 11, 12, 13) opening below the contact tray (5, 6, 7, 8), and with a plurality of horizontal separation trays (15, 16, 17) provided with swirl tubes (20, 21, 22) and with means (29, 30, 31) for removing liquid from the separation tray (15, 16, 17), each separation tray (15, 16, 17) being arranged above a contact tray (6, 7, 8), wherein each swirl tube (20, 21, 22) is provided with an annular U-turn deflector (34, 35, 36) arranged over the upper end of the swirl tube (20, 21, 22).

Column for counter-currently contacting gas and liquid

A horizontal tray (3) is disclosed for use in a normally vertical column (1) for counter-currently contacting gas and liquid, which horizontal tray (3) comprises an upper horizontal plate (6), a lower horizontal plate (7), a liquid supply space (8), a liquid feed pipe (10) opening into the liquid supply space (8), and a vertical tubular contact and separation device (13), which comprises an open-ended tube (15) extending through the horizontal plates (6, 7), a liquid delivery device (22) comprising an upwardly directed liquid delivery opening (24, 39) which is in fluid communication with the liquid supply space (8), swirl imparting means (30) arranged in the open-ended tube (15) above the liquid delivery opening (24), and guide means (31) to direct liquid from the upper end of the open-ended tube (15) onto the upper horizontal plate (6), which horizontal tray further comprises an open-ended downcomer (35) having an inlet arranged above the upper horizontal plate (6) and an outlet arranged below the lower horizontal plate (7).

Horizontal tray and column for contacting gas and liquid

A device for the counter-current contacting of gas and liquid comprises a normally vertical column having a gas inlet and a liquid outlet at the lower end thereof and a gas outlet and a liquid inlet at the upper end thereof. The column contains gas/liquid contacting apparatus located between the gas inlet and the liquid inlet and a gas/liquid separation apparatus located above the gas/liquid contacting apparatus and below the liquid inlet. The separation apparatus includes a horizontal collection tray having passages communication with a separation device and with at least one vertical distribution tube extending through the horizontal collection tray to the gas/liquid separation apparatus. The separation device has a gas outlet communicating to the gas outlet of the column and a liquid outlet, which with the liquid inlet, discharges onto the horizontal collection tray. The device provides gas with a reduced quantity of entrained liquid and is useful for the drying of natural gas by contacting with ethylene glycol.

Contacting device

Gas/liquid contacting apparatus (1) comprising a housing (2) provided with a gas inlet (3), a liquid outlet (5), a liquid inlet (7) and a gas outlet (9) arranged above the gas inlet (3), and a horizontal tray (11) arranged between the gas inlet (3) and the liquid inlet (7) and provided with a cyclonic separator (13) extending from below the horizontal tray (11) to above the horizontal tray (11), which cyclonic separator (13) comprises a vertical swirl tube (17) internally provided with swirl imparting means (19), a coaxial gas outlet tube (21) arranged above the vertical swirl tube (17) and provided externally with an annular deflector (32), an outer tube (23) arranged around the swirl tube (17) and provided at its upper end with an inwardly directed annular deflector (35) and with a gas outlet (33), and at least one conduit (31) extending from the exterior of the cyclonic separator ( 13) above the tray (11) to the interior of the swirl tube (17) below the swirl imparting means (19).
