A composition is described, comprising: (a) from 20 to 80 wt % of a polyester; (b) from 5 to 35 wt % of a flame retardant phosphinate of the formula (I)[(R)(R)(PO)&#x2014;O]M&#x2003;&#x2003;(I),a flame retardant diphosphinate of the formula (II)[(O&#x2014;POR)(R)(POR&#x2014;O)]M&#x2003;&#x2003;(II),and/or a flame retardant polymer derived from the flame retardant phosphinate of the formula (I) or the flame retardant diphosphinate of the formula (II), wherein Rand Rare identical or different and are H, C-C-alkyl, linear or branched, or C-C-aryl; Ris C-C-alkylene, linear or branched, C-C-arylene, -alkylarylene or -arylalkylene; M is an alkaline earth metal, alkali metal, Al, Ti, Zn, Fe, or boron; m is 1, 2, 3 or 4; n is 1, 2, or 3; and x is 1 or 2; (c) from 1 to 25 wt % of a melamine polyphosphate, melamine cyanurate, melamine pyrophosphate, and/or melamine phosphate; (d) from more than 0 to 25 wt % of a polyetherimide; and (e) optionally, an additive.

Polyester compositions, method of manufacture, and uses thereof

A composition, comprising: a poly(butylene terephthalate); a nitrogen-containing flame retardant selected from the group consisting of triazines, guanidines, cyanurates, isocyanurates, and mixtures comprising at least one of the foregoing nitrogen-containing flame retardants; a phosphinates or diphosphinates; and a charring polymer.

Halogen-free flame retardant polyester

A composition comprises 20 to 80 wt. % of a polyester component comprising a modified polybutylene terephthalate random copolymer derived from a polyethylene terephthalate component selected from polyethylene terephthalate and polyethylene terephthalate copolymers and having at least one residue derived from the polyethylene terephthalate component; from 5 to 35 wt. % of a flame retardant phosphinate (I) or (II)(R)(R)(PO)&#x2014;O]M&#x2003;&#x2003;(I)[(O&#x2014;POR)(R)(POR&#x2014;O)]M&#x2003;&#x2003;(II),and/or a flame retardant polymer thereof, wherein Rand Rare independently are H, C1-C6-alkyl, or C6-C10-aryl; Ris C1-C10, alkylene, C6-C10-arylene, -alkylarylene or -arylalkylene; M is an alkaline earth metal, alkali metal, Al, Ti, Zn, Fe, or boron; m is 1, 2, 3 or 4; n is 1, 2, or 3; and x is 1 or 2; 1 to 25 wt. % of a melamine polyphosphate, melamine cyanurate, melamine pyrophosphate, and/or melamine phosphate; and more than 0 to 25 wt. % of a polyetherimide.

A thermoplastic molding composition comprises a resin composition having 50 to about 90 weight percent of a polyester, about 8 to about 48 weight percent of a polyetherimide, about 2 to about 25 weight percent of a high rubber graft impact modifier, each based on the total resin composition, and up to about 15 weight percent of a particulate filler. A method of making the composition comprises pre-melt compounding a polyester, a polyetherimide, and a high rubber graft impact modifier to form a pre-compounded blend, wherein the pre-compounded blend has a Tg of greater than or equal to about 110&#xb0; C.; and dry-blending a crystallized polyester with the pre-compounded blend to form the molding composition. Such molding compositions are particularly useful in blow-molding containers for liquids such as beer.

Method of manufacture of polyester molding compositions and articles produced therefrom

A clear blend of three resin components includes a first polycarbonate resin component; a second resin component of a first polyester copolymer resin derived from a cycloaliphatic diol and a cycloaliphatic dicarboxylic acid, and a third resin component of a second polyester polymer resin derived from the condensation of a cyclohexane diol with a terephthalic acid and an additional condensation reaction component selected from aliphatic or aromatic diacids or diols suitable for enhancing the clarity of said blend wherein the three component blend has a light transmission of seventy percent or greater and an elongation at break after exposure to Fuel C of forty percent or greater.

Polycarbonate polyester molding composition

A thermoplastic molding composition comprises a resin composition having 50 to about 90 weight percent of a polyester, about 8 to about 48 weight percent of a polyetherimide, about 2 to about 25 weight percent of a high rubber graft impact modifier, each based on the total resin composition, and up to about 15 weight percent of a particulate filler. Flame retardant polyester compositions

Disclosed is a method for the preparation of polymeric phosphate flame retardants with a molecular weight of at least about 1500 and a softening temperature of at least about 10&deg; C. comprising the steps of (a) reacting a phosphorus oxyhalide with a monohydroxyaromatic compound, (b) removing substantially all of any remaining phosphorus oxyhalide; (c) reacting the monoaryldichlorophosphate product with a dihydroxyaromatic compound and (d) reacting the product of step (c) with a monohydroxyaromatic compound. The solid polymeric flame retardant has a linear structure and less than 10 ppm halogen bound to phosphorus. Also disclosed are resinous compositions comprising the solid polymeric phosphate made by the method of the invention and at least one other polymeric resin.

Method to make a solid polymeric phosphate and resinous compositions containing it

A polyester composition includes a poly(butylene terephthalate), a nitrogen-containing flame retardant, and a phosphorus-containing flame retardant, such that the weight ratio of the total of the nitrogen-containing flame retardant and the phosphorus-containing flame retardant to poly(butylene terephthalate resin) is at least about 0.70, and the weight ratio of the phosphorus-containing flame retardant to the nitrogen-containing flame retardant is at least about 1.0. The compositions have excellent color stability under ultraviolet light aging, good flame retardance, and high impact strength.

Polyester molding composition

A polyketone composition consisting of a blend of a polyketone and glass fibers having a coating composition thereon having an acrylic functionality. The molded articles of the above composition have improved tensile strength and impact resistance. The coating composition may consist of styrene-acrylonitrile copolymer or blends thereof.

Ketone polymer/fiber compositions

A process for preparing a polymer composition useful as a prepreg comprises (a) melt-mixing at least one thermoplastic polymer above the glass transition temperature or melt temperature of the thermoplastic polymer with either (i) an uncured epoxy resin or (ii) an epoxy curing agent or a catalyst; (b) melt-mixing above the glass transition temperature or melt temperature of the thermoplastic polymer, the other of (i) an uncured epoxy resin or (ii) an epoxy curing agent or a catalyst to form a substantially uncured but essentially curable and/or polymerizable composition; (c) optionally forming a shaped product from the melt-mixed composition of (b); and (d) fast-curing and/or fast-polymerizing the optionally formed shaped product.

Melt-mixing thermoplastic and epoxy resin above Tg or Tm of thermoplastic with curing agent

UV-stabilized or other modified polycarbonates are prepared by combining polycarbonate, a radical polymerization initiator and a UV-stabilizer-molecule or other additive such as a flame retardant or IR additive containing a reactive group susceptible to radical attack in a melt. In the melt, the UV-stabilizer or other additive is graft polymerized to the polycarbonate to form a modified polycarbonate. The method can be practiced using bis-phenol-A (BPA) polycarbonates, soft-segment polycarbonates and high heat polycarbonates. The reaction may be performed in an extruder.
