A process is disclosed for reversibly absorbing carbon dioxide to an alkali metal or earth alkaline absorbent. For absorption the absorbent is contacted with a first gas composition. For desorption the absorbent is contacted with a second gas composition. The moisture contents of the first and second gas compositions are controlled so that during the absorption step the absorbent is converted to a bicarbonate, and during the desorption step the absorbent is converted to a carbonate hydrate. Compared to prior art processes the process of the invention requires less energy input. The process of the invention is particularly suitable for producing a carbon dioxide enriched gas for accelerating plant growth in a greenhouse.

The invention relates to a process for conversion of a feedstock comprising solid particles into at least a gaseous compound in a reactor comprising a vertically extending swirl chamber comprising a conical upper part with a decreasing diameter in upward direction, at least one tangential inlet at the bottom of the swirl chamber, and an outlet at the upper end of the swirl chamber, wherein the process is selected from pyrolysis, allothermal gasification or carbonization of a carbonaceous feedstock. A device is disclosed for conducting an adsorption/desorption swing reaction. The desorption step of the reaction is conducted at least in part at a temperature below 100&#xb0; C. Dry steam is used for purging the reactor and the adsorbent bed in the reactor. For this purpose the device has a water reservoir, and a vacuum source in fluid connection with the water reservoir and the reactor. During the desorption step the vacuum source causes water to evaporate, and the water vapor to flow through the reactor.

A process for the pyrolysis of carbonaceous material is carried out in a cyclone reactor which is fitted with enhanced filtering equipment. In addition the invention relates to the use of a cyclone fitted with a rotating filter as a pyrolysis reactor. By using a cyclone of the rotating separator type as a pyrolysis reactor, carbonaceous material, such as biomass, can effectively be converted in a product having excellent chemical properties and which product is free from particulate matter.

The system comprises a computer for measuring parameters of the combustion of the matter, wherein use, matter, such as for instance waste, is supplied to the system and combusted, thereby forming a flue gas. The system further comprises means for determining the concentration of CO , O and H O in the flue gas. The computer is arranged for determining, on the basis of the measured concentrations, the rate of combustion and/or the composition of the combustible part CH O of the waste supplied to the system, for the purpose of process control.
