An ease of drive coating for a fastener is formulated from a resin having at least two different friction reducing components, such as silicone and graphite. A fastener and fastener strip include a resin formulation with at last two different friction reducing components.

Fastener tip coating

A fastener driver tool fastener load system includes a fastener driving tool having a housing including a magazine with a fastener entry end, an opposite shear block end, and a fastener track defined between the ends. A tensioner is mounted to the housing and includes a driven roller. A plurality of fastener strips is disposed linearly in end-to-end fashion and each strip is secured to each other by at least one fastening tape having a free end connected to the driven roller. The tensioner is constructed and arranged for creating a biasing force for urging the fastener strips toward the shear block end.

Enhanced capacity fastener load system

A corrugated-typed fastener configured to couple a first substrate to a second substrate includes a bridge and a plurality of ribs, the ribs having a plurality of flutes. The flutes, and possibly the ribs, may be angled inwardly to form an apex disposed within the width of the fastener and pointing towards a center of the fastener. The ribs may extend outward from the bridge towards opposing ends of the fastener, and the ends may be at a different height than the bridge when viewing the fastener from the side. Alternatively, the ends may be at the same height as the bridge and also may be generally centered on the height of the fastener.

Fastener tip coating chemistry

A fastener assembly includes a row of fasteners having a head, a tip, and a portion of a shank coated with a polymer composition. The polymer composition includes a polymer material such as polyurethane and metal particles. The polymer composition is used to provide improved corrosion and ultraviolet radiation resistance when used with naturally corrosive or pressure preservative treated wood. The fastener assembly is coated with the polymer composition by vacuum coating a dispersion of the polymer composition in a solvent such as water and removing the solvent.

Partially coated fastener assembly and method for coating

A fastener assembly for use in a fastener driving tool is formed as a row of fasteners arranged substantially parallel to each other and a supporting strip. The strip has a supporting substrate and an adhesive composition thereon. The supporting substrate has an elongated dimension extending generally in the direction of the row of fasteners. The supporting substrate defines upper and lower edges, at least one of which has a scallop formation therein between the fasteners. The scallop formation defines a 3-dimensional profile to stiffen the fastener assembly. The adhesive composition bonds to the fasteners to maintain the fasteners in the substantially parallel arrangement in the row. A method for making the assembly is also disclosed.

A novel nosepiece for a fastener driving tool for driving fasteners for holding and spacing an object at a predetermined distance from a substrate are provided, wherein the fastener driving tool has a housing, a driver blade within the housing for driving the fasteners, and a power source for driving the driver blade, and each of the fasteners includes a bridge portion, a first prong extending in a driving direction from the bridge portion, a second prong spaced from the first prong and extending generally parallel thereto in the driving direction from the bridge portion, wherein the second prong is substantially shorter than the first prong, the nosepiece comprising, a trailing end coupled to the housing of the fastener driving tool, a substrate contacting end, a channel for axially guiding the driver blade and the fastener in a driving direction toward the substrate, a slot proximate the substrate contacting end laterally extending into the channel for receiving the object, and a curved ramp within the channel, wherein a portion of the ramp is positioned between the slot and the substrate contacting end, the ramp being for interfering with the path of the second prong to bend the second prong toward the first prong to hold the object between the second prong and the bridge portion.

Fastener driving tool for spacing object from substrate

A fastener driving tool having a reciprocating driver blade and a nosepiece, and being configured for sequentially feeding fasteners to the nosepiece for engagement by the driver blade for subsequent driving into a workpiece, each fastener defining a plane, further includes a deformation formation in the nosepiece configured for engaging a portion of each of the fasteners so that upon impact of the fastener by the driver blade, the engaged fastener portion is deformed in a direction transverse to the plane to define a deformed portion, the deformed portion configured for providing a clamping force upon at least one of the workpiece and a workpiece material being secured to the workpiece. A fastener is provided for use in such a tool and includes a crown configured so that, upon impact with at least one of the workpiece and the workpiece material, the crown has a nonlinear configuration.

A novel fastener for holding and spacing an object at a predetermined distance from a substrate comprises a bridge portion, a first prong extending in a driving direction from the bridge portion, and a second prong spaced from the first prong and extending generally parallel to the first prong in the driving direction from the bridge portion, wherein the second prong is substantially shorter than the first prong.

Fastener for spacing object from substrate

A polymer-coated metal fastener is provided which has both improved ease of drive into a substrate, and improved resistance to withdrawal from the substrate. The coated fastener is prepared by heating a metal fastener, or a portion of it, to about 400-2000&deg; F. and cooling in an aqueous medium containing an acrylic or modified acrylic polymer. The rapid cooling causes formation of a thin yet durable polymer coating on the fastener.

Method of chemically coating fasteners having improved penetration and withdrawal resistance

A selectively hardened nail includes a nail head, an elongated shank, and a tip. A portion of the nail shank is made harder than the remainder by selectively heat treating that portion, and cooling it. The nail has controlled bending properties. The selectively hardened portion does not significantly bend when the nail is fired at a surface using a power driving tool, or during use of the nailed object.
