A speed measuring system comprising at least one stationary speed sensor () for detecting a speed of a measuring body () rotating relative to the speed sensor () wherein the measuring body () is provided, on its periphery, with electric or magnetic discontinuities. The speed sensor () situated at a defined distance from the measuring body (), reacts to the discontinuities when the measuring body () is moved past the speed sensor (). The speed measuring system has, in addition, one separate distance sensor () for determining an actual distance (LS) and an actual change in distance between the speed sensor () and the measuring body (). In an evaluation device of the speed measuring system the speed of the measuring body () is formed from an actual output signal of the speed sensor () according to an actual output signal of the distance sensor ().

System with distance sensor for measuring rotational speed of a body

A method is described for determining a rotation speed and a rotation direction of a component (), in particular a transmission output shaft, with a sensor device (). In the sensor device (), as a function of a rotation speed and direction of the component (), a first sensor signal and a second sensor signal are generated, which are phase shifted relative to one another and each of which, on reaching an upper switching threshold or a lower switching threshold in the sensor device (), triggers a switching signal. When there are alternating, consecutive switching signals of the two sensor signals, the sensor device () emits a pulse signal as a function of which a variation of a sensor signal is generated, which is used to determine a rotation speed of the component (). After a rotation direction reversal of the component () a pulse signal of the sensor device () is only generated after sensing a rotation movement of the component (), this rotation movement of the component () being sensed when, in alternation, a switching signal of one sensor signal is followed by a switching signal of the other sensor signal.
