The present document relates to a pressure sensor comprising a structural element, the structural element comprising a first and second structural part. The sensor further comprises a first cavity being in fluid connection with an exterior of the sensor for establishing a first pressure which is dependent on an external pressure in the first cavity and a second cavity configured to be at a second pressure in use. A deformable structure is deformable dependent on a pressure difference between the first pressure and the second pressure. The sensor comprises a fiber including an intrinsic fiber optic sensor fixed to the structural element and to the deformable structure for providing an optical sensor signal dependent on said pressure difference.

Pressure sensor and sensor system comprising one or more pressure sensors

The embankment monitoring system comprises an optic sensor chain () and an interrogator (). The optic sensor chain () comprises a series of intrinsic fiber optic sensors () that are mutually spaced with respect to each other in a longitudinal direction of the optic sensor chain and at least one optic fiber () to optically connect the plurality of intrinsic fiber optic sensors to the interrogator. The interrogator is configured to issue an optic interrogation signal and the intrinsic fiber optic sensors are configured to respond to the optic interrogation signal with an optic measurement signal that is indicative for at least one physical parameter (P) sensed by the intrinsic fiber optic sensors. The interrogator is further configured to process the optic measurement signals of the intrinsic fiber optic sensors to estimate a depth (d) as a function of a position (p) along said optic sensor chain ().

Embankment monitoring system

The invention relates to an optical sensor device comprising a reference body and at least one sensing transducer. The sensing transducer is arranged for receiving an input action, and is movably arranged relative to the reference body for moving relative to the reference body in response to the input action. The device further comprises an optical fiber and one or more transmission arms including a first transmission arm. The optical fiber comprises an intrinsic fiber optic sensor. The optical fiber is connected with a first connecting part thereof to the first transmission arm and with a second connecting part thereof to an element exterior to said first transmission arm. The first connecting part and the second connecting part are on either side of the intrinsic fiber optic sensor. For receiving the input action, a base of the first transmission arm is connected at a first part thereof with the reference body and with a second part thereof with the sensing transducer. The optical fiber is connected at a location along the first transmission arm remote from the base thereby converting the input action received by the sensing transducer into a sensing action applied to the optical fiber such as to modify strain in the optical fiber dependent on said input action.

Optical sensor device, sensor apparatus and cable

The invention relates to an optical sensor device comprising a reference body, an optical fiber including an intrinsic fiber optic sensor, and a hydraulic transmission system. The hydraulic transmission system is connected to the reference body such that an input portion and an output portion are movable with respect to the reference body. The optical fiber is connected with a first connecting portion to the output portion of the hydraulic transmission system and with a second connecting portion to an element exterior to the hydraulic transmission system. The intrinsic sensor is positioned between the first and second connecting portion. The input portion is arranged for receiving an input action and the hydraulic transmission system is arranged for converting the input action to a sensing action applied to the optical fiber by the output portion such as to modify strain in the optical fiber dependent on said input action.

In an arrangement of a traffic infrastructure and an optic sensor system (), the traffic infrastructure has a traffic carrying surface () for providing support of conveyance elements () of a vehicle (), therewith allowing movements of the vehicle over the traffic carrying surface. The optic sensor system () comprising an interrogator () and at least one fiber optic sensor () arranged below the traffic carrying surface that is coupled to the interrogator. The at least one fiber optic sensor () comprising an optic fiber () with a plurality of optic strain-sensor elements () distributed over its length. The plurality of optic strain-sensor elements () have mutually different optical characteristics, e.g. a mutually different characteristic wavelength. The interrogator () is configured to transmit an optical interrogation signal into the at least one fiber optic sensor, to receive a response optical signal modulated by said fiber optic sensor, and to identify changes in the optical characteristics of the response optical signal resulting from strains induced in said optic strain-sensor elements as a result of a conveyance element () of a vehicle () moving over the traffic carrying surface () across said at least one fiber optic sensor. wherein the at least one fiber optic sensor () extends at least substantially according to a straight line in a direction at least substantially parallel to the traffic carrying surface.

Fiber-optic based traffic and infrastructure monitoring system

The invention is directed at an optical sensor device, comprising a sensing element for receiving an input action, an optical fiber comprising an intrinsic fiber optic sensor, and a transmission structure arranged for exerting a sensing action on the optical fiber in response to the input action received by the sensing element, wherein the optical fiber in a first connecting part thereof is connected to a reference body and wherein the optical fiber in a second connecting part thereof is to the transmission structure for receiving the sensing action, the first connecting part and the second connecting part of the optical fiber being located on either side of the intrinsic fiber optic sensor, wherein the transmission structure comprises a bi-stable spring having a first and a second stable deflection position and a negative stiffness range around an unstable equilibrium position between the first and second stable deflection position, and wherein the optical fiber between the transmission structure and the reference body is pre-stressed such as to be tensed, said optical fiber thereby acting as a spring having a first spring constant of positive value, wherein the optical fiber thereby counteracts a spring action of the bi-stable spring such as to operate the bi-stable spring in a deflection position range within the negative stiffness range, the deflection position range not including the unstable equilibrium position of the bi-stable spring.
