The method provides an X-ray tube rotary anode by increasing the thickness of a thin, highly deformed anode disc to the desired value by deposition of a layer, consisting mainly of molybdenum, by means of thermal spraying. The method provides an X-ray rotary anode which has the attractive properties of a highly deformed anode disc and which also has a large diameter which cannot be obtained by means of the high-speed deformation impact process due to the maximum applicable thickness-diameter ratio.

A layer of W or of a W-alloy is provided on a forged supporting member of an X-ray rotary anode by plasma spraying. By carrying out the plasma spraying at reduced pressure, a layer is obtained which is suitable as a target layer for X-ray rotary anodes.

A conversion screen such as is used for X-ray image intensifier screens, X-ray image intensifier tubes, cathode-ray tubes, image pick-up tubes, X-ray electrography, fluorescent lamps and the like is formed by the deposition of a layer of conversion material on a carrier (19) via a melting space (7) which is preferably heated by means of a plasma arc. This method of deposition offers very robust screens with a high density and also allows the filling of recesses in a carrier with conversion material, so that structured conversion screens can be formed.

In an X-ray tube rotary anode having a supporting body (1) of molybdenum alloy, a target (2) of tungsten alloy, and a rough tungsten layer, applied by flame spraying to the whole surface of the anode except the focal path (4), for improving heat radiation, the rough tungsten layer does not adhere well to the tungsten alloy target, and particles of the rough tungsten layer may become detached in use, degrading the performance of the X-ray tube. To alleviate this problem, the whole surface of the anode, except the focal path (4), is blasted with steel grit, steel grit particles embedded in the anode are removed with acid, and the whole surface of the anode, except the target (2), is coated with a rough tungsten layer (3) by plasma spraying.

Method of improving the heat radiation properties of an X-ray tube

The invention relates to a method of manufacturing a metallized plastic reflector in which a layer of fibrous material is provided on the convex surface of a mold. The layer is then just saturated with a thermohardening synthetic resin, and after partial hardening, a metal layer is applied onto the partially hardened resin layer by means of a spraying process. A supporting layer of a fiber reinforced thermohardening synthetic resin is then provided on the metal layer and after hardening the reflector is finally removed from the mold.
