A device for transporting yarn comprises a central mast which is equipped with a plurality of circulating transport belts which are arranged when viewed in cross section in polygonal form. At least one yarn is wound around the transport belts and the central mast in controlled loops by means of a winding flyer, whereby the central mast is supported in a mounting on its end towards the winding flyer. In the area of its other end, the central mast is provided with supported rollers, which are supported by a supporting roller arranged outside the loops. The supporting roller and the transport belts are each provided with their own drives. The speeds of the transport belts, the supported rollers and the supporting roller can thus be synchronized exactly with each other.

Device for transporting yarn with a central mast

In the case of a process for the continuous heat setting of yarn, the yarn, laid down in loops on transport belts, is fed through a heat setting chamber which operates with superheated steam and under atmospheric pressure. Because of the entry and exit openings, the temperature inside the heat setting chamber is constant only over a part of the transport length. The chamber temperature is set slightly above the required heat setting temperature. Transport speed and chamber length are so adjusted in relation to each other than the yarn, having reached the heat setting temperature, essentially retains it along a part of the transport length.

Process and apparatus for the continuous heat setting of yarn laid down

In the case of an arrangement for the continuous heat setting of yarns, which are guided by means of transport belts into, and then out of, a heat setting chamber using superheated steam, at least one central mast is provided which is equipped with several circulating transport belts, arranged in polygonal form when viewed in cross section. At least one yarn is wound around the central mast and the transport belts in controlled loops. The transport belts are themselves subdivided into circulating belt sections, which are arranged consecutively at transfer points, the transfer points being arranged directly upstream and/or downstream of the heat setting chamber.

Arrangement for the continuous heat setting of yarns

Carpet yarns which have been previously mechanically compressed, are heat set in a yarn heat treating chamber by superheated steam. The yarn treating chamber operates under atmospheric pressure. Several yarns are passed through the yarn treating chamber on respective perforated conveyor belts. The steam is conducted so that it is forced to flow downwardly through the yarns and through the permeable conveyor belts. To avoid the formation of condensate water on the conveyor belts, the belts are in the form of nonmetallic nets, upon which the yarns are deposited in the form of loops.
