A system and method for contactless data transmission. A transponder includes a reception unit for receiving a modulated RF signal, a signal processing unit which is connected downstream of the reception unit and a unit for processing at least two differently modulated and/or coded RF signals, for providing a supply voltage and for providing a data signal produced from the modulated RF signal, and a data processing unit which can be connected to the supply voltage and to which the data signal can be supplied, and which is connected to the signal processing unit for setting the modulation type and/or coding type for the RF signals to be processed. The signal processing unit is set to the process differently modulated and/or coded RF signals in chronological order, starting from application of a supply voltage until the data processing unit identifies reception of a prescribed data signal.

Method for contactless data transmission and transponder for a contactless data transmission system

A nonconductive substrate forms a strip or a panel on which a multiplicity of carrier elements is formed, in particular for installation in a chipcard. One side of the substrate is provided with conductive contact surfaces which lie within an outer contour line that determines the size of a carrier element. The other side of the substrate has conductor structures within the outer contour line which form at least contact fields for at least one coil to be contacted and for at least one semiconductor chip. The substrate has cut-outs outside each outer contour line, through which it is possible to access coil terminals of the semiconductor chip for testing purposes from the contact-surface side, as long as the carrier element is still in the strip or in the panel.

A data carrier includes at least one coil for the contactless reception of amplitude-modulated signals. A rectifier circuit is connected downstream of the coil. A circuit configuration processes and/or stores data. A supply-voltage control circuit is connected in parallel with the circuit configuration. A current measuring device acts as an amplitude demodulator and is disposed between the coil and the voltage-supply control circuit.

Data carrier for the contactless reception of amplitude-modulated signals

A method for demodulating a voltage which has been ASK modulated by changing the amplitude between a low level and a high level, in particular for use during contactless data transmission from a card reader/writer to a smart card, is described. The method is distinguished, in that, in an initialization phase, a first mean value is produced from the high voltage level and a stored partial voltage derived therefrom in order to detect a change to a low voltage level. The change to the low voltage level represents a start value and is detected by a subsequent comparison of the modulated voltage with the first mean value. In a subsequent demodulation phase, a second mean value is produced from the detected low voltage level and the high voltage level in order to demodulate the modulated voltage by comparing the modulated voltage with the second mean value.

Method for ASK demodulation, and ASK demodulator

A chip card includes a semiconductor chip that contains at least one memory. In order to supply energy to the chip and to provide for bi-directional data transmission from and to the chip, both contacts and a device for contactless data transmission are provided. A triggerable switch device which is provided on the chip connects the memory either to the contacts or to the device for contactless data transmission as a function of a state of an output signal of a logic circuit connected to at least a voltage supply contact. The switch device assumes a position of repose when it is not triggered and in that position it connects the memory to the device for contactless data transmission, while only upon application of a voltage to the supply voltage contact, triggered by the logic circuit, does it connect the contacts to the memory.

A device for processing and storing data, in particular a chip card, includes a first interface with contacts and a second contactless interface for receiving energy or power from and for communication with a terminal device. A first controllable switching device connects either the first or the second interface to a non-volatile semiconductor memory through address, data and control lines. A logic circuit drives the first controllable switching device. A second controllable switching device disposed between the first controllable switching device and the memory can be driven at least by the logic circuit and an address signal present on the address lines.
