The invention provides a compound, namely acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof or a pharmaceutical composition comprising ASA or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, for use in the treatment of a patient, e.g. a human being, suffering from a severe influenza virus infection and/or a symptom or condition associated therewith (namely, nasal congestion, sore throat, cough, fever, fatigue, headache and myalgias), wherein said use comprises the administration of a composition comprising ASA or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof to the patient by inhalation.

The present invention is directed to the administration of aerosolized particles to specific area of the lungs, and in particular to the targeted delivery of aerosolized pharmaceutical formulations to a specific area of the lungs. More specifically, the present invention relates to devices and methods for depositing aerosolized particles to a specific area of the lungs by regulating aerosolizing parameters of the device. The present invention also relates to devices, systems and methods for disease management, where the aerosolizing parameters are adjusted based on monitoring at least one health parameter.

An inhalation device may include a control and an air pump that is connected to the control. The air pump is controlled by the control such that the air pump supplies an inhalation flow, or inhalation volume or both according to a predetermined time course to a nebulizer connected to the air pump. The inhalation flow, inhalation volume or both is controlled by controlling the air pump, rather than by using valves.

A device for the controlled inhalation of therapeutic aerosols comprises means providing individual patient parameters and/or aerosol parameters for the inhalation. An inhalation device has a container for an aerosol volume inhaled via a channel and a mouthpiece , the container being located within a housing . The aerosol, in particular vitamin A, is introduced from a cartridge into the interior of the container via a nebulizer . The breath flow in the inhalation device is controlled via a control means that keeps the inhalation flow essentially constant during the entire inhalation period.
