A rock drill has an axially extending shank (1) with a drill head (2) on one end. The drill head (2) has an end face (3) with a cutting blade (4) and cutting pins (5) extending outwardly from the end face in the drilling direction. The cutting blade (4) extends diametrically across the end face and projects radially outwardly from the drill head (2) and axially outwardly from the end face (3). The cutting pins (5) are arranged on a diameter of the drill head which forms an acute angle relative to the cutting blade (4). Due to the acute angle between the cutting pins and the diametrically arranged cutting blade, removal grooves extending axially from the end face can be enlarged.

Rock drill

In a hand-held tool having a tool holder for receiving a variety of tool bits, a probing device is provided for checking the surface configuration of the shank of a tool bit inserted into the tool holder. The probing device includes at least one control element arranged to move radially inwardly through an opening in the tool holder. If the control element moves radially inwardly into an axially elongated recess in the tool bit shank, it moves out of stopping engagement with a slide permitting the slide to move relative to the control element and initiating a switching operation for changing the driving action of the hand-held tool.

A tool chuck for securing a tool bit in a drilling and cutting device includes a guide tube into which the tool bit is inserted and an adjusting sleeve displaceable relative to the guide tube. The guide tube has spaced first and second apertures with the first apertures holding locking members and the second apertures holding entrainment strips. The adjusting sleeve has alternating first and second pockets in its inside surface for receiving the locking members and the entrainment strips. With a tool bit having slots for both the locking members and the entrainment strip, both the locking members and entrainment strips can be displaced radially inwardly by the adjusting sleeve. If the tool bit has only slots for the locking members, the locking action can be effected with the entrainment strips maintained radially outwardly from the tool bit.

A dust guard cap for the tool holder in a hand-held drilling device is formed of a casing secured on the tool holder and a cover member mounted on and extending across one end of the casing. The cover member forms an opening through which a tool can be inserted into the tool holder. Attached to the cover member and extending inwardly from the through opening is a resilient sleeve-like torus which forms a seal around the tool. An outwardly projecting bead is formed on the inner end of the torus and bears against the casing.

A drill bit with an axially elongated shank is suitable for use in all known conventional hand-held drilling machines. The shank is generally cylindrically shaped with axially extending first grooves open at the free rear end face of the shank. Axially extending second grooves are superimposed at least in part on the first grooves and are spaced from the rear end face. Each second groove forms at least one shoulder face disposed transversely of the shank axis and oriented in the direction facing oppositely to the rear end face. Accordingly, the drill bit, due to its first grooves, can be utilized in the chucks presently used in drilling machines and percussion drilling machines. Further, due to the second grooves, the drill bit can be clamped for limited axial movement in the chucks of known hammer drills.

A clamping chuck for securing a tool in a drilling device can be used for transmitting rotary and/or percussion motion to the tool. Independently adjustable guide jaws and at least one engaging element are mounted in the chuck. The guide jaws can hold a tool shank in a frictional engagement while the engaging element can fit into a recess in the surface of the tool shank. With such separate adjustment, the guide jaws can be used alone or in combination with the engaging element for holding the tool shank.

A rock drill is formed of an axially elongated member made up of a cutting bit at one end followed by a helically grooved shaft and then ending in a shank. At least a portion of the groove, viewed in the axial direction of the member, has a stepped bottom providing groove sections of different depths. The depth of the groove section from the surface of the shaft decreases in the direction toward the shank. The groove sections with stepped bottom commence at a certain axial length from the cutting bit.

A tool holder for a drill capable of performing only rotary drilling or the combination of rotary and percussive drilling includes a tubular retainer member in which the shank of a tool can be inserted. Locking members mounted in the retainer member fit into recesses in the tool shank for holding it in the retainer member. During percussive drilling the locking members are axially displaceable in the recesses and the tool experiences a certain amount of axial play, however, when only rotary drilling is performed the locking members are held against axial displacement by stops so that the tool does not have any axial play. One stop forms a part of the retainer member and another stop is part of a member slidably displaceable relative to the retainer member.

In a manually operated electrical appliance, such as a hand drill or the like, a handle is secured to and extends from the appliance housing. Electrical components including contacts are located inside the handle, an electrical cable extends into the handle and is connected to the contacts. An elastic electrical insulating material cover is located within the handle enclosing the cable and covering the electric contacts and insulating both from the handle.

A hammer drill for performing percussive drilling or rotary drilling includes a housing and a tool holder mounted on and axially displaceable relative to the housing, the tool holder contains a retainer sleeve mounting locking member for securing the shank of a tool in the holder. When the hammer drill is used only for rotary drilling, the retainer sleeve is displaced into contacting engagement with the housing for centering the tool holder. The tool holder includes stops for securing the locking members against axial displacement during rotary drilling. One stop is movable relative to the retainer sleeve and can be locked in position. Another stop forms part of the retainer sleeve. The stops combine with the closed ends of the recesses in the tool shank for holding the locking members against axial displacement.

Hammer drill for performing rotary drilling or percussive drilling

A handle for a hand-held device such as a hammer drill, includes an axially elongated tubular support member formed of a wear-resistant material and a grip member laterally encircling at least a portion of the outer surface of the support member. The grip member is fitted into a recess in the outer surface of the support member. Radially outwardly extending flange-like projections on the support member form the opposite ends of the recesses and project radially outwardly from the outer surface of the grip member for protecting it against wear.

In a straddling dowel or expansion anchor assembly, a threaded bolt or stud has a head or nut adjacent one end for securing a member onto a support structure. The bolt is threaded into one end of a sleeve-like member and a threaded projection extends axially from the other end of the member with the projection extending axially through an expansion sleeve. A spreader is threaded onto the outer end of the projection for use in expanding the expansion sleeve. A device interconnects the bolt or stud and the sleeve-like member so that rotation of the bolt is transmitted to the sleeve-like member for pulling the spreader into and expanding the expansion sleeve. When a minimum anchoring value of the anchor within a borehole is achieved, the interconnection is disengaged. By continued rotation of the bolt or stud the member can be secured to the support structure with the interconnecting device being completely enclosed within the anchor structure.

In a straddling dowel or expansion anchor assembly a spreader is threaded on one end of a bolt so that by turning the bolt the spreader is pulled into an expansion sleeve for spreading it into anchoring contact with the surface of a borehole. The opposite end of the bolt has a shoulder provided by a head or nut. Between the expansion sleeve and the shoulder, a yielding member laterally encloses the bolt and yields at least when a minimum anchoring value of the expansion sleeve has been reached. The yielding member affords a visible indication that the minimum anchoring value has been achieved. A washer is positioned adjacent the shoulder on one end of the bolt. Before the expanding action, the washer is spaced from the shoulder on the bolt by the yielding member or by a separate member, however, as the minimum anchoring value is achieved the washer is displaced relative to the member which spaces it from the shoulder, into contact with the shoulder.

A drilling tool for use in boring holes is formed of an axially elongated drilling member and a holder or input unit. The input unit laterally encloses the rearward end of the drilling member and is formed of at least two materials, one having a higher thermal conductivity than the other. The higher thermal conductivity material is in contact with the shank of the drilling member and extends radially outwardly to the outer surface of the input unit. The higher thermal conductivity material can have various shapes, for instance, that of a coil, spaced disks, a sleeve with inwardly extending webs or an inner sleeve and an outer sleeve spaced apart and joined by a flange-like web. The second material may be a plastic and can be fixed into holes or openings formed in the first material.
