Cartridge, system and method for automated medical diagnostics

A system () for point of care diagnosis and/or analysis of a body fluid of a patient, includes at least one cartridge (), at least one handheld diagnosis and/or analysis device () and at least one data processing device (). System for point of care diagnosis and/or analysis

The present invention relates to an aptitude test system () which includes at least one object () which is provided with a data carrier () on which data associated with the object () is stored, as well as a test device () which includes a reading apparatus () whereby the data of the data carrier () can be transfer-red to a computer (). The data includes aptitude data which characterizes at least one permissible application for the associated object (). The computer () has access to current application data which characterizes a concrete application intended for the relevant object (). For aptitude testing of the relevant object () the computer evaluates the aptitude data thereof and the actual application data. The computer () outputs a release signal when the object () is suitable for the intended application.

A fluid movement system for moving a sample fluid is preferably included in a cartridge to be inserted into a reading device. The fluid movement system includes a pressure variation means for moving the sample fluid under the influence of a pressure variation applied to the fluid movement system, and a timing means for controlling the timing for releasing a pressure in the pressure variation means.

Optical vehicle display having a set of LEDs arranged in a matrix and having a control circuit which acts as a controllable current source and as controllable voltage source, so that a constant current can be applied for each LED and the respective voltage is established accordingly. An optical vehicle display designed in this way permits a design as a taillight, brake light, flashing indicator and the like in a motor vehicle with favorable production at the same time due to reduced faulty assembly and simple adjustment of the light values.

An optical display device has a set of LEDs arranged in a matrix and includes control circuitry which acts as a controllable current source and as controllable voltage sources. The control circuitry enables a constant current to be applied for each LED, and respective voltages to be established accordingly. Due to the additional logic circuitry which deliver different clock pulses at different frequencies for cyclic switching of at least one LED, signals that are visible to the human eye are generated and at the same time signals that are not visible to the human eye are also generated. The signals that are not visible are digitally coded and transmitted for appropriately adapted reading devices. Thus additional information for a variety of purposes can be made available, especially in the communications and traffic area, simultaneously with the lighting up of the LEDs. This refers in particular to traffic control systems, diagnosis and monitoring. An optical display device designed in this way permits a design, for example, as a taillight, brake light, flashing indicator light and the like in a motor vehicle or with other traffic and communications means and also in equipment in production facilities while permitting favorable production at the same time due to reduced fault in assembly and ease of adjustment of the light values.

Optical display device and method of operating an optical display device

A portable hand-held monitor (1) for monitoring vital signs is connected, via a single connector (7), with a cable (9). This cable ends up in a combiner (10) which, in turn, receives plugs (12a to 12d) leading, via cables (11a to 11d), to single sensors or transducers applied to a patient. Portable hand-held monitor (1) comprises a display (3) and internal memory means, in order to store recorded vital signs and to transmit them to a remote computer later on. As only a single cable (9) is required for connection with combiner (10), patient monitoring becomes quite easy if the combiner (10), cable (9) and the associated sensors and interconnection cables are left at or near the patient. In this case, a plug (8) connected with cable (9) has simply to be inserted into connector (7), in order to start data acquisition. The same simple approach may be used to monitor the next patient, and so on.

Method and system for monitoring vital signs

A respiration monitor for detecting effective respiration of a patient includes circuitry for suppressing the indication of unwanted signals due to heart activity, noise and flat breathing. A first threshold circuit is provided for increasing the sensitivity of the respiration monitor in response to a decreasing amplitude of the measured respiration signals. A first comparator circuit provides a fixed amplitude threshold below which detected signals are fully neglected. A second threshold circuit provides an adjustable amplitude threshold for the measured respiration signal, which threshold is raised in response to a decreasing respiration frequency below a predetermined frequency limit. Effective respiration is indicated only if all the aforementioned amplitude thresholds are exceeded.
