The invention relates to aqueous emulsions containing (A) organo-hydrogenated polysiloxanes optionally mixed with organopolysiloxanes free of Si linked hydrogen and organyloxy groups, (B) organopolysiloxanes containing organyloxy groups as stabilizers, (C) emulsifiers and (D) water.

Organosilyl carbonates, such as bis(trimethylsilyl)carbonate, are prepared by reacting an organohalosilane with an alkali bicarbonate in the presence of an amine and/or a phosphine and an aprotic solvent, preferably a polar solvent which is inert to the reactants. The resultant mixture is separated from the ammonium halide and/or phosphonium halide and the organosilyl carbonate is recovered from the halide-free mixture.

Organopolysiloxanes having SiC-bonded oxyalkylene units and Si-bonded hydroxyl groups, in which an average of at least 15 mol percent of the siloxane units contain only one SiC-bonded monovalent organic radical and the silicon valences which are not satisfied by the SiC-bonded monovalent organic radical are satisfied by siloxane oxygen atoms or oxygen atoms of hydroxyl groups. Asymmetrical disiloxanes are prepared by reacting (a) a silane containing three SiC-bonded monovalent organic radicals in which at least one may be substituted with Si-bonded hydrogen and an SiOC-bonded monovalent organic radical with (b) a symmetrical disiloxane which is different from the disiloxane obtained from the hydrolysis of silane (a), and contains at least two identical substituents in the presence of water and an acid at a temperature of from -10.degree. to about 50.degree. Coatings which have a predetermined degree of adhesive-repellency are prepared by applying to surfaces which are to be rendered adhesive-repellent an organopolysiloxane having Si-bonded hydrogen and an aliphatic multiple bond in the same molecule and a catalyst which promotes the addition of Si-bonded hydrogen to an aliphatic multiple bond, and thereafter crosslinking the organopolysiloxane by the addition of Si-bonded hydrogen to an aliphatic multiple bond. The organopolysiloxane having both an aliphatic multiple bond and Si-bonded hydrogen in the same molecule, has a viscosity of at least 300 mPa.s at 25.degree. C. The adhesive-repellency of the coated substrate is at least partially dependent on the ratio of Si-bonded hydrogen to the aliphatic multiple bond, i.e., the higher the ratio of Si-bonded hydrogen to the aliphatic multiple bond, the lower the adhesive-repellency. Organic compounds containing at least one grouping of the formula ##STR1## in an amount to retard or prevent the addition of Si-bonded hydrogen to an aliphatic multiple bond at room temperature, are to be excluded from the adhesive-repellent compositions of this invention.

Hydrophilic coatings are obtained by applying to a substrate a composition containing an aqueous soluble organopolysiloxane which is capable of being crosslinked by the addition of Si-bonded hydrogen atoms to SiC-bonded aliphatic multiple bonds, and having at least one oxyalkylene unit bonded to a silicon atom and an aqueous soluble catalyst which promotes the addition of Si-bonded hydrogen atoms to the SiC-bonded aliphatic multiple bonds and thereafter crosslinking the organopolysiloxane by the addition of the Si-bonded hydrogen atoms to the SiC-bonded aliphatic multiple bonds to form a hydrophilic coating on the substrate. The aqueous soluble organopolysiloxane may be obtained from a mixture consisting of equal parts of a mixed hydrolysate, prepared from 1.7 moles of dimethyldichlorosilane, 1 mole of [acetoxy-(hexaethyleneoxy)propyl]-methyldichlorosilane and 0.3 mole of vinylmethyldichlorosilane, and a mixed hydrolysate prepared from 1 mole of dimethyldichlorosilane, 1 mole of [acetoxy(hexaethyleneoxy)-propyl]-methyl-dichlorosilane and 1 mole of methyldichlorosilane.
