A device for determining delivery of an aerosol stream has a collector having a filter for collecting aerosol particles in the aerosol stream, a first fluid connection point connectable to an aerosol generator, and a second fluid connection point connectable to a breathing simulator for simulating tidal breathing, at least one measurement volume for an interaction of at least one light beam with the aerosol particles passing through the measurement volume, at least one optical measurement unit for generating at least one optical measurement signal depending on the interaction of the at least one light beam with the aerosol particles passing the measurement volume, and at least one evaluation unit for determining the aerosol delivery of the aerosol stream from the at least one optical measurement signal. A method determines an absorption and/or adsorption of a liquid on aerosol particles.

Device and method for determining an aerosol delivery

A method and device are used for administering a humidified aerosol to a patient interface by providing and guiding a first gas flow having a humidified aerosol, a second gas flow having humidified respiratory gases, and a liquid flow of a thermally balancing liquid, thermally balancing the first and second gas flow by parallel guiding the first and second gas flow such that the first and second gas flow are guided in a manner that they are at least partially surrounded by the liquid flow of the thermally balancing liquid, mixing the first and second gas flow to obtain enriched respiratory gases having the humidified aerosol, and administering the enriched respiratory gases to the patient interface. The method and the device avoid the administration of dry or re-dried powdered aerosols and unwanted accumulation of and blockage by powdered material. The device is useful in respiratory support of preterm infants.

Method and device for administering a humidified aerosol to a patient interface

A system for respiration-controlled application of aerosol in powder form during artificial respiration or assisted respiration of a patient including an interface contacting the patient's respiratory tract, a unit for generating a respiratory gas flow, at least one inspiration line through gas flow is conducted to the interface, an aerosol generator, at least one aerosol line through which the generated aerosol is conducted from the aerosol generator to the interface, and a respiration sensor that detects the patient's respiration signal. A valve in the at least one aerosol line is controlled based on the detected respiratory signal. An intermediate store for generated aerosol in powder form is arranged between the valve and the aerosol generator. The gas flow has a first pressure that is higher than or equal to ambient pressure and the aerosol has a second pressure that is higher than or equal to the first pressure.

At least part of the walls of the device are self-exciting membranes that can be put into oscillation by the pressure pulses.
