A polyaxial bone anchoring device includes an anchoring element having a shaft and a head, a receiving part having a seat for receiving the head, a pressure element to exert pressure onto the head, wherein the head is pivotable and can be locked at an angle relative to the receiving part, wherein an outer wall of the pressure element has a recess or a deformable portion, and an inner wall of the receiving part has a deformable portion or a recess, wherein the pressure element is movable from a first position wherein the deformable portion protrudes a first distance into the recess while the head is pivotable relative to the receiving part, to a second position wherein the deformable portion protrudes a second distance into the recess, such that a force holds the head at one of a plurality of releasable angular positions before locking the head.

Polyaxial bone anchoring device

A bone anchoring assembly includes a bone anchoring element having a shank to be anchored in a bone or a vertebra, and a receiving part for receiving a rod. The assembly includes a rod made at least partly of a material which exhibits a material flow under pressure. The receiving part includes a channel with an approximately U-shaped cross-section with two free legs, a first locking element cooperating with the legs to secure the rod in the channel, and a second locking element cooperating with the first locking element and acting independently from the first locking element onto the rod. A pin-shaped projection is provided at the second locking element which comes into contact with the rod when tightening the second locking element, and at least one pin-shaped projection is provided in the channel which comes into contact with the rod when tightening the first locking element.

Bone anchoring assembly

An anchoring device for anchoring a rod in a bone or a vertebra and for use with at least two rods having a different diameter is provided. The anchoring device includes a shaft and a head for connection to one of said rods. The head is connected to said shaft and has a recess with a base and two substantially vertically extending legs defining a channel for receiving the rod in said channel. The anchoring device further includes a fixation element for clamping said rod in said channel. The fixation element and said base each have a contact surface contacting said rod, the contact surfaces being shaped so as to be able to clamp any of the different rods.
