A site-selectable, helmet-installable load-cushioning pad structure employable inside a helmet shell as a part of a plural-spaced-pad distribution featuring a compressible viscoelastic foam core which resists rapid, but not slow-movement, compression. Associated methodology includes the steps of providing such a structure for installation inside the shell of a helmet, and pre-arming the core of that structure with a load-response characteristics which (a) resists sudden-movement, rapid compression, yet (b) offers less resistance to slow-movement compression. An encapsulating moisture barrier layer may be provided around the foam core.

Helmet chin-strap harness structure including a pair of bilaterally symmetric, bilaterally equi-flex, non-rigid, fabric-strap-like, substantially mirror-image, flexible lateral elements which define opposite sides for the harness structure, and a bilaterally symmetric chin-strap substructure having laterally opposite sides releasably attachable for fore-and-aft translational sliding on the two lateral elements.

A self-seeking, load-distributing, load-balancing and shock-managing head-engaging system for use inside, and in association with, the shell of a helmet, including (a) a collection of configurationally changeable, shock-absorbing pads removeably and changeably attached/attachable effectively as a variable distribution to the inside of such a shell, and (b) a cinchable, self-seeking/adjusting, self-load-balancing and load distributing chin-strap subsystem operatively associated with the pad distribution, and also attached to the shell. This sub-system is sensitive to the then-particularities of such a pad distribution, and is operable, on cinching of the subsystem through the simple act of pulling on just two strap ends, to stabilize the associated helmet shell on the head of a wearer, with all of the pads in the then-distribution of pads being thereby drawn into proper, defined, shock-managing, load-distributing and load-balancing condition relative to the wearer's head.

Self-balancing, load-distributing helmet structure

A seat structure with two, lateral-side latching-unlatching mechanisms for enabling smoothly operating releasable locking and unlocking actions between a seat-base and an inclinable seat-back hinged to the seat-base in the seat structure. Two interengageable arcs of gear teeth forming part of each mechanism engage and release selectively under rocker-lever seat-occupant control to lock and unlock the seat-back for inclinational fixation and adjustment, and, as determined by tooth-pitch in the arcs, enable positive locking to take place in a large number of specific, small-angular-difference, seat-back inclinations. A floating cross-shaft, and two rocker cams joined thereto, interconnect the two lateral side mechanisms. The seat-base is fully twist-deformable in a catastrophic event replicating a conventional rack-and-roll test without the seat-back becoming unlocked relative to the seat-base.

Bilateral, warp-tolerant, cross-synchronized, gear-lock adjustable seat structure

An impact-G-force, vector-modifying seat structure in a vehicle, which seat structure introduces, in a forward crash situation, and in a generally vertical plane, a special forward, then upward, and then rearward rotation of the base of the spine of a seated occupant. This motion tends to minimize crash injuries.
