A sliver processing machine includes a plurality of roll pairs between which a running sliver passes. Each roll pair is composed of a driving roll and a pressure roll. A separate pressing device is connected with each pressure roll for urging each pressure roll against its driving roll. Each pressing device has a shiftable element displaced by the pressure roll upon radial displacement of the pressure roll in response to winding of sliver on either the pressure roll or the associated driving roll. A common actuating element is connected to each shiftable element of each pressing device for displacing the common actuating element upon displacement of any one of the shiftable elements. A switching device is connected to the common actuating element. The switching device has an idle state and a signal-generating state. The switching device is placed into the signal-generating state by the common actuating element upon displacement of the common actuating element by any one of the shiftable elements, whereby the switching device generates a signal in response to winding of sliver on any roll of any of the roll pairs.

A filter drum is screened off at the matted fibers take-off position on its interior face via a sealing membrane which is pressed by support sheets and a tightening element against the interior face. The drum is positioned within a housing whose interior is subjected to a suction force and is sealed off from the atmosphere by lip seals. A gap between a compression roll and a take-off roll is tightly filled by the compressed layer of matted fibers so that the entry of leakage air is prevented.

In a can changer device, empty cans are fed to a reserve position A and full cans are transported from a collection position C into a delivery position G by means of an apparatus for moving spinning cans. The can moving apparatus comprises drive means containing rails and a carriage movable thereon and having pivotably mounted arms. The arms are pivotable from a substantially vertical position, and specifically, to one side into a substantially horizontal position for entraining and moving the empty cans and, as to one arm of such arms, into the opposite substantially horizontal position for entraining and moving the full can. The carriage is movable to-and-fro by means of a toothed belt between a deflection or reversing head and a drive head, respectively between the locations or positions H and L. During operation, the can changer device itself moves the filled can from the position B towards the position C and the empty can from the position A into the position B. The can moving apparatus thereafter moves the full can from the position C into the position G, whereafter the one arm is pivoted back into the vertical position and the carriage is moved into the location of position L in order to thereafter move the empty cans into the positions F and F.sup.I, and simultaneously, to move the preceding cans to such an extent that an empty can has again reached the reserve position A. Thereafter, the arms are again pivoted back into the subtantially vertical position and the carriage is returned back into the waiting location or position I.

A method of, and apparatus for, maintaining substantially constant a quantity of opened fibrous material delivered per unit of time, to a spinning preparatory machine, wherein a conveying air stream is generated by means of a fan operating at a given point on its characteristic diagram, the conveying air stream is delivered into a transporting duct for the fibrous material, and the fibrous material is supplied into the transporting duct. The supplied fibrous material within the duct is accelerated by means of the conveying air stream, and the accelerated fibrous material is delivered within the duct in the direction of the spinning preparatory machine. There is determined the operating condition of the fan by measuring a parameter which is characteristic for the operation condition of the fan and depending on the quantity of fibrous material accelerated, the measured parameter is compared with a parameter corresponding to a desired quantity of opened fibrous material which is to be delivered per unit of time to the spinning preparatory machine, and upon deviation of the measured parameter from the set value parameter there is adjusted the further supply of fibrous material into the transporting duct until re-establishing a supply of fibrous material to said spinning preparatory machine corresponding to the substantially constant quantity of opened fibrous material desired to be delivered to the spinning preparatory machine.

In addition, at least one heat-conducting means of high heat conductivity connects the sleeve to the housing in heat conductive relation.
