Piston with a structured design

Steel piston with optimized design

A piston for an internal combustion engine includes a piston upper part and a piston lower part having a cooling channel including at least one inlet opening. A dam-type elevation is formed in the region of the at least one inlet opening through forging of the dam elevation in the cooling channel portion in the piston lower part. In one example, a funnel-shaped inlet contour is formed in the inlet opening by pre-forging. In one example, a V-shaped element is formed in the piston upper part cooling chamber portion in alignment with the inlet opening and used as a coolant jet splitter.

The arrangement relates to a method for producing a cooling duct piston for an internal combustion engine, having the steps of producing a top piston part by introducing a combustion bowl, a cooling space of a part of a cooling duct and overflow ducts, producing a bottom piston part by introducing a part of a cooling duct, and joining the piston parts, wherein at least one transfer duct is created by bores. A cooling duct piston produced by the method is disclosed.

A cooling channel piston for an internal combustion engine which includes a piston bottom and a piston shaft that are joined thereto of a friction welding process. The piston bottom and the piston shaft jointly form a cooling channel. An annular wall which radially delimits the cooling channel towards the outside is formed by the piston bottom and/or the piston shaft. The annular wall can be sealed by a welding process once the piston bottom and the piston shaft have been joined together.

Simple friction weld

A method for producing a piston of an internal combustion engine, designed as a one-piece cooling channel piston. The piston includes an upper part and a lower part supported by corresponding circumferential joining bosses together forming a joining zone. In order to produce a bonded joint of the upper part and the lower part, the joining bosses are connected by means of multiorbital friction welding in the region of a rotationally symmetrical or rotationally asymmetrical joining zone.

A piston, especially a cooling channel piston of an internal combustion engine, has an upper part and a lower part which can be produced separately from each other and subsequently be assembled. The upper part has at least three radially peripheral joining webs and the lower part likewise at least three radially peripheral joining webs. During assembly, the webs are put together and connect the upper part firmly to the lower part.
