A method for constructing an underwater pumped-storage power plant in a dry but floodable ground depression is disclosed, wherein a plurality of pressure vessels are provided or built in the dry ground depression, wherein the plurality of pressure vessels are arranged side by side and/or one above the other in the dry ground depression, where they serve as a lower reservoir for the underwater pumped-storage power plant to be constructed, and wherein the pressure vessels are designed such that they each have at least one flow-through opening for admitting and/or discharging water and are pressure-resistant such that they can be pumped dry in a dimensionally stable manner against a hydrostatic water pressure acting on the pressure vessels from the outside when the dry ground depression is flooded with water.

Method for constructing a pumped storage power plant in a ground depression, in particular in an open-cast mine

A method for the preliminary use of a partially constructed lower reservoir for an underwater pumped-storage power plant is disclosed, wherein a partially constructed lower reservoir is provided which is located in a dry but flooded ground depression, and which, when the dry ground depression is flooded, can be operated in such a way that electrical energy is generated when water is admitted into the lower reservoir from the flooded ground depression and electrical energy is stored when water is pumped out of the lower reservoir into the flooded ground depression, wherein the partially constructed lower reservoir is connected to a preliminary upper reservoir via a penstock.

Method for provisionally using an at least partially constructed lower reservoir for an underwater pumped-storage power plant

An underwater pumped storage power plant that includes: an accumulator system with pressure vessels fillable with water and; a water outlet for water flow out of the system into a surrounding ocean against hydrostatic water pressure (PT) corresponding to water depth (T); a pump at the water outlet to pump water out of the system by converting electrical energy into potential energy corresponding to a displaced water column PT; a water inlet to allow water flow into the system from the surrounding ocean; a common generator at the water inlet, to convert the potential energy back into electrical energy when water flows in; electric lines to transport the electrical energy from the ocean surface to the power plant and back, wherein the pressure vessels are pressure-resistant and resistant to deformation from the PT at the ocean floor.

Pumped-storage power plant

A pumped storage power plant for a temporary reversible storage of energy, such as the energy available from wind power stations and/or photovoltaic systems that is fluctuating over time. The pumped storage power plant is designed as an underwater pumped storage power plant, wherein the ocean assumes the function of an upper storage basin and a pressure tank placed on the ocean floor serves as a lower storage basin. The storage of the electric energy takes place through pumping water out of the inside of the pressure tank against the hydrostatic water pressure on the ocean floor.
