Step cheek () for a conveying device () having a plurality of steps () or plates, wherein each step () or plate has two lateral step cheeks () which stand substantially perpendicular with respect to a tread element () and a seating element () of the step () or plate. The step cheek () comprises a single-piece, deep-drawn metal sheet, wherein the metal sheet has a three-dimensional shape with an at least partially circumferential rim () and a step socket () which is enclosed or surrounded by the metal sheet.

Steps or plates for a conveying device, and conveying device

A tread element for a conveyor such as an escalator or moving sidewalk has a tread plate and at least one border strip. First and second abutment arrangement for the strip are provided, and include a first groove element and a tongue element on mating portions of the tread plate and strip. Interacting stop surfaces of the abutment arrangements on the plate and strip prevent relative movement in the direction of mounting, while one of the abutment arrangements provides a locking arrangement between the tread element and strip.

In an escalator, a handrail is supported medially and reversed by means of a reversing sheave, which rotates about an axle which has approximately the width of a balustrade. The axle is held by at least one supporting cheek. A handrail-drive, which is integrated in the balustrade base, drives the reversing sheave by means of a drive-wheel, the handrail, which is guided over a diverter roller, being carried along by friction from the reversing sheave.

An escalator has a step-band with steps for the transport of persons. The step-band is bounded on its sides by a balustrade held by a balustrade base. A handrail-drive drives the handrails, and has friction-wheels driving the handrails on the outside of the handrails. Rollers press upon the insides of the handrails, pressing the handrail against the friction-wheel. At least one further friction-wheel arranged on a step chain-wheel drives the friction-wheel through frictional or mechanical engagement.

An escalator or moving walkway is provided with a guide device to maintain the positions of the steps or plates with respect to the escalator sides. A respective guide device is provided at each step side which guides the steps laterally in the horizontal direction and insures a minimum spacing of the step from the base plate of the escalator balustrade base. In the forward run portion of the step belt the guide device engages the base plate, while in the return run portions of the step belt, the guide device engages the side surface of a second guide for chain rollers.

Guide device for escalator step or moving walkway plate

A drive for an escalator is installed on one or both sides of the escalator at the lower and/or upper end and comprises one to several identically constructed drive units, which are arranged and distributed about the circumference of a main drive wheel. The drive units can be flange-mounted in either a longitudinal or transverse direction to the direction of travel of the escalator on a common main gear housing which can be identical for the support of one or more drive units. The operation of the motors of the drive units are controlled by way of a common frequency-setting device. A control and regulating unit processes input data into control and regulating data for the frequency-setting device, a relay control and optical signals and illumination for the escalator. The individual drive units are switched in or out according to the actual power requirements of the escalator during operation.

Drive for an escalator

An escalator or travelling walkway, which connects a first story with a second story, has plates forming a walkway for conveying persons and objects. The travelling walkway is laterally bounded by balustrades. Each balustrade carries a moving handrail which advances at the speed of the plates. A balustrade pedestal supports the balustrades. Serving as a support for the plates are one or more support bodies having a beam lower edge, at which underneath bracing is arranged. The bracing may be in the form of tie rods, connected to ends of the support bodies and to the middle of the support bodies by a central support.

An escalator or travelling walkway has a handrail at the top of a balustrade which is centrally supported and deflected by means of a support wheel which rotates about an axle and which has approximately the width of the balustrade. The axle is held by at least one carrier cheek which is connected to either a support construction for the handrail or the balustrade.

In escalators or moving stairways there exists, between the moving step and the fixedly positioned skirt guard, a latent risk of entrapment or catching of the shoe of the passenger, especially when wearing light footwear. The inventive warning devices are arranged at the side uprights or plates of the step of the escalator and induce the user or passenger, by means of a physically and, possibly additionally, by means of an acoustically perceptible signal, to leave the stepped-on danger zone. Each of the warning devices comprising, for example, two swivelingly or pivotably mounted segments is held in a projecting readiness position, through the force of a spring, in relation to the tread surface and the front surface of the step. When the warning device is stepped upon by the passenger, this warning device is pressed into a flush position with respect to the tread surface of the step and in which position a pin, positioned on one of the segments, is pressed against a profiled guide edge of the related skirt guard. The pin thus glides over the profiled guide edge, during the movement of the step, and causes the step to vibrate. Depending upon the shape of the profiling of the guide edge, an additional acoustically perceptible sound or clatter can be generated.

Step of an escalator or the like equipped with at least one safety device

The guiding apparatus comprises substantially rectangular rail holders and L-shaped rail holders. Main and follower travel rails or tracks are supported by such rail holders and there are provided side plates at which there are mounted the rail holders, the side plates being supported upon a carrier frame. These rail holders are provided at their attachment or fastening side with at least two respective centering protuberances or nubs or the like which engage into corresponding centering openings provided in the side plates to which the rail holders are fastened. The rail holders possess, at their rail contact side, a dovetail clamping device which, in cooperation with a dovetail profile or section extending along the underside of the travel rail or track, to reliably and easily releasably holds the travel rails and the rail holders by virtue of a clamping action which is exerted at all sides of the dovetail profile. The side plates, and, in particular, the position of their centering openings are produced true or exact to size and with narrow tolerances so that in cooperation with the related centering protuberances and the rigid dovetail clamping there is automatically ensured parallelism and alignment of the travel rails or tracks required for a quiet escalator or stair running. The guiding apparatus can be assembled without the need to resort to assembly fixtures or jigs and without subsequent adjustment from individual mass-produced parts.
