A mixture which consists of organic compounds and water and is obtained in solvent recovery by adsorption and desorption is separated by a process in which the water is removed from the said mixture (3) in an extraction column (1) by means of a highly concentrated alkali solution (4) (extracting agent), the resulting dilute alkali solution (6) (extracting agent) is then evaporated down in an evaporator (7) by means of added steam (8), the steam (9) formed in this procedure is fed to the adsorbers (2) for desorption of the organic compounds, the resulting highly concentrated alkali solution (4) is recycled to the extraction column (1), and the anhydrous organic compounds (5) are removed.

Separation of a mixture which consists of organic compounds and water

A process for consolidating the surface of a granular adsorbent, wherein thermoplastic crosslinkable bonding fibers are applied from aqueous suspension, the water taken up by the adsorbent is evaporated off and the bonding fibers adhering to the surface of the adsorbent are crosslinked by heating. The adsorbent thus treated has virtually the same adsorption and desorption properties as the untreated adsorbent, but exhibits substantially improved abrasion resistance.

Consolidating the surface of a granular adsorbent

A process for consolidating the surface of a granular adsorbent, wherein a water-containing adsorbent, which has taken up 25-70% by weight of the maximum possible amount of water, is heated to a temperature at which the water taken up evaporates, and is at the same time treated with an aqueous dispersion of a self-crosslinking copolymer, and the adsorbent thus coated is heated to a temperature at which the copolymer crosslinks. The coated adsorbent has virtually the same adsorption and desorption properties as the untreated adsorbent, but in contrast exhibits substantially improved abrasion resistance.

A process for converting viscous reactive chlorine- and sulfur-containing production residues into solid products which can be dumped, wherein the said residues are treated with alkaline materials. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, chlorine-containing and sulfur-containing production residues which are viscous and still reactive, e.g. the residues obtained from the manufacture of plant protection agents, dyes or fine chemicals, are converted in a simple and efficient manner into solid products which can be dumped. The treatment according to the invention has the advantage that no further pollution of the environment by waste gases or waste water results.
