Applicants have discovered that certain polyethylene (PE) homopolymers or copolymers of ethylene and Cto Calpha-olefin monomers are more suitable for oriented processes than other polyethylene resins. In an aspect, the PE has a MFI of 0.3 g/10 min. to 5.0 g/10 min., a melting point of from 110&#xb0; C. to 140&#xb0; C., a density of from 0.912 g/cmto 0.965 g/cm(%), a haze of 10% or less, a clarity of at least 90, and a gloss of at least 60. The polyethylene is heated and formed into an article, cooled, and then the article is stretch oriented. In an embodiment, the film, tape, the melt extruded, injection blow molded, injection stretch blow molded, cast, and thermoformed articles that can be produced with this polyethylene has a thickness of 0.1 mil to 100 mils. The polyethylene exhibits excellent elasticity, toughness, stretch and optical properties for such applications.

Polyethylene useful for producing film and molded articles in a process which uses solid state stretching

Disclosed is a bimodal Ziegler-Natta catalyzed polyethylene, having a density of from 0.930 g/cc to 0.960 g/cc, and a molecular weight distribution of from 10 to 25, wherein an article formed therefrom has a PENT of at least 1500. Also disclosed is a method of preparing a tubular article including obtaining a bimodal polyethylene having a density of from 0.930 g/cc to 0.960 g/cc and a molecular weight distribution of from 10 to 25, and processing the polyethylene under conditions where a specific energy input (SEI) is less than 300 kW&#xb7;h/ton, and wherein the article has a PENT of at least 1500. Further disclosed is a method for controlling the degradation of polyethylene including polymerizing ethylene monomer, recovering polyethylene, extruding the polyethylene, and controlling the degradation of polyethylene by measuring the SEI to the extruder and adjusting throughput and/or gear suction pressure keep SEI less than 300 kW&#xb7;h/ton, and forming an article.

Bimodal pipe resin and products made therefrom

A bimodal polyethylene having a high density ranging from about 0.955 to about 0.959 g/cc, an improved environmental stress cracking resistance (ESCR) of from about 400 to about 2500 hours, and an improved 0.4% flexural modulus of from about 180,000 to about 260,000 psi (1,200 MPa to about 1,800 MPa) may be formed using a Ziegler-Natta polymerization catalyst using two reactors in series. The bimodal polyethylene may have a high load melt index (HLMI) of from about 2 and about 30 dg/min and may be optionally made with a small amount of alpha-olefinic comonomer in the second reactor. Bimodal polyethylene resins that have high stiffness and high ESCR

Polymer articles and processes of forming the same are described herein. The processes generally include providing an ethylene based polymer, blending the ethylene based polymer with a modifier to form modified polyethylene and forming the modified polyethylene into a polymer article, wherein the polymer article exhibits a haze that is at least about 10% less than a polymer article prepared with a similarly modified polyethylene.

Articles formed from nucleated polyethylene

A polymer, and a process of producing the polymer, that comprises at least one olefin and has a density of 0.955 g/cc to 0.959 g/cc and a secant modulus 140,000 psi to 220,000 psi. Bimodal blow molding resin and products made therefrom

The present invention includes an end use article (i.e., an article of manufacture) and a process for making the same, wherein the end use article has a relatively high gloss and exhibits excellent processability over a wide range of processing conditions. The end use article can be formed with glossy polyethylene having an 'a' parameter less than or equal to about 0.40, and the glossy polyethylene can be a Metallocene polyethylene. The end use article can have a 60&#xb0; specular gloss of at least about 40%, or from about 40% to about 80%, or from about 60% to about 80%. The end use article may be pigmented or unpigmented.

High gloss polyethylene articles

Disclosed is a method of modifying polyethylene to increase its ability to resist the transmission of water vapor. The polyethylene is modified to increase long chain branching resulting in lower water vapor transmission rates in films prepared with the modified polyethylene. The polyethylene can be modified using peroxides, air and even by admixture with high long chain branching content polyethylene. The polyethylene, particularly when in the form of films, can be used for preparing packaging where sorption of flavor, aroma, or colorant compounds must be minimized.

Polyethylene films for barrier applications

An improved method of manufacturing blown polyolefin films with increased bubble stability and higher blown film production rates is disclosed. A method in which the amounts and ratios of known antioxidant polymer film additives (phosphites and phenolics) are controlled to provide limited long chain branching (LCB) and greater rheological breadth in a polyethylene melt to improve both processing characteristics and mechanical properties in the resulting film.

Method of improving blown film processing performance and physical properties

A method of modifying a polyethylene material is accomplished by providing a polyethylene resin. The initial rheological breadth of the polyethylene resin is determined. The resin is then modified to adjust the rheological breadth of the polyethylene from the initial rheological breadth to a different rheological breadth that corresponds to a desired resin property, such as haze. A method for predicting clarity and rheological breadth properties is also provided, which utilizes a template of measured properties for polyethylene resins.

Film clarity and rheological breadth in polyethylene resins

The present invention includes a polyolefin composition having reduced coloration with aging. The polyolefin composition comprises at least one polyolefin, an effective amount of a primary phenolic antioxidant to promote long term thermal stability of the polymer composition, and an effective amount of a phosphite processing stabilizer to promote thermal stability of the polymer composition during melt processing. The polymer composition further comprises an effective amount of a sacrificial phosphite antioxidant to reduce the yellowness index of the polymer composition. The sacrificial phosphite antioxidant and the phosphite processing stabilizer are not the same compound.

Polyolefin composition having reduced color bodies

A method of processing polyethylene for use as an extruded blow molding resin to improve the properties and processability thereof is accomplished by modifying a polyethylene resin having a molecular weight distribution (Mw/Mn) of less than about 10. The modification is carried out by the addition of a free radical initiator to the resin during extrusion of the resin to increase the rheological breadth of the polyethylene from about 10% to about 60% compared to unmodified polyethylene resin extruded under similar conditions. In another aspect of the invention, a polyethylene resin having higher melt index is processed to provide a desired final melt index by the addition of a free radical initiator where it would otherwise be necessary to utilize a resin having lower melt flow, and which is more difficult to process. Improvements in color can also be obtained.
