In a control arrangement for an internal combustion engine having a cylinderhead with a compressed air discharge valve and a compressed air system with a compressed air tank to which compressed air can be supplied from the engine cylinder by way of a connecting line, pressurized control fluid can be supplied to the compressed air discharge valve for opening the compressed air discharge valve for motor braking operation of the engine, and a bypass line including a control valve is provided by way of which the compressed air discharge valve can be directly controlled for supplying compressed air to the compressed air tank.

In an exhaust gas purification system for an internal combustion engine, particularly a Diesel engine, which includes an electronic control device for timing the fuel injection into the engine and means for adding a reducing agent stored in a tank to the exhaust gas of the engine for reducing the nitric oxide content of the exhaust gas, means are provided for detecting the fill level of the reducing agent tank and means for retarding the injection timing when the fill level detecting means indicates that the reducing agent tank is empty.

In an arrangement for handling air compressed in a Diesel engine wherein a control valve is disposed in the cylinder head controlled by an electronic control unit so as to open during given periods in the compression strokes of the particular pistons and an air reservoir is in communication with the valve via a compressed air conduit, a two-way valve is arranged in the compressed air conduit and connected to the exhaust gas conduit of the engine and the two-way valve is switchable to open the compressed air conduit between the control valve and the air reservoir or to provide communication between the control valve and the exhaust gas conduit, the electronic control unit being capable of opening the control valve for charging the reservoir when the compression pressure in a cylinder reaches the operating pressure of the air in the reservoir.

An exhaust-gas turbocharger for an internal-combustion engine, the exhaust-gas turbine of which comprises a rotor with an at leash partially diagonal throughflow direction and a spiral guide channel surrounding this and having a mouth region in the form of an angular nozzle, and a variable guide blade cascade with guide blades being arranged in the mouth region. In order to design guide blade cascades with a simpler construction than that of known versions, at the same time with an increase in their operational reliability, according to the invention the guide blades are divided in such a way that they form a divided guide blade cascade with a stationary guide-blade cascade part and with a guide-blade cascade part assigned to this and rotatable concentrically relative to the axis of rotation of the rotor.

In a flow control apparatus of an exhaust gas turbocharger turbine for an internal combustion engine including a rotor disposed in a turbine casing having a spiral guide channel arranged around the rotor with a mouth area defining an inlet opening for directing the exhaust gas to the turbine rotor, a control sleeve including a flow guide section with flow guide passage is axially movably supported between the spiral guide channel and the rotor. The flow guide passages have guide characteristics which vary depending on the axial location on the sleeve so that the characteristics of the exhaust gas flow admitted to the rotor can be changed by axial movement of the control sleeve. Adjacent the flow guide passages the control sleeve has an integral annular end section for blocking the exhaust gas flow so as to form a flow-throttling cross-section at the mouth area for engine brake operation.

The invention relates to a cold-start assisting device for motor vehicles with which under extreme cold conditions, in addition to the normal fuel, auxiliary fluid is also injected into the intake of the vehicle combustion engine by means of a control switch. With this operating or control switch it is also possible after a successful start to support the running of the combustion engine with auxiliary injection. In order to prevent intentional or inadvertent operation of the auxiliary injection with a stalled engine, the control switch exhibits an auxiliary working contact which is connected with a terminal of a motor driven generator.

Cold-start assisting device for combustion engines

A heating arrangement for preheating combustion air flowing through an intake manifold of an internal combustion engine, the heating arrangement including a pot-shaped housing forming a combustion chamber into which an ignition device and a fuel injection nozzle project. A shut off valve controls an inflow of fuel and a shield sheet serves to shield the combustion flame. The pot-shaped housing is located in a flow path of the combustion air and is covered on its open side by a holder. The holder is fastened to the intake manifold and supports the ignition device, fuel injection nozzle, and shut off valve. The housing includes openings in an upstream wall portion from which the shield sheet projects into the housing in a vicinity of the opening in such a way that the shield sheet separates the combustion chamber from the fuel injection nozzle chamber.

Heating device for preheating combustion air for an internal combustion

A control member for regulating a flow of fuel to fuel injection devices of an air-compressing internal combustion engine. The control member is adapted to be arranged in one of a zone of the injection valve or within the injection valve. The control member includes a flow-controlling axially movable control piston having an axial bore with the control piston being urged, by a compression spring, into an end position for preventing a full flow of fuel through the control member. A spring chamber is provided for accommodating the compression spring with a throttle being arranged in an end face of the control piston, which throttle communicates the inlet line means with the spring chamber through the axial bore in the control piston. An arrangement is provided for minimizing an open volume of the spring chamber and at least one first bore is provided in the control piston for selectively communicating the axial bore with the outlet duct. A control edge arrangement is provided for controlling an opening and closing of the first bore with the control edge being arranged so as to close the first bore after the control piston is axially displaced over a predetermined portion of a working stroke. A throttle bore, in communication with the axial bore, is provided in the control means at a position offset in a longitudinal direction of the control piston with respect to the first bore. At least one second bore is provided in the control piston in a position offset in a longitudinal direction of the control piston with respect to a further throttle bore in a direction toward an end face of the control piston.

Control member for fuel injection devices

A control arrangement for a supercharged diesel engine, which is equipped with an injection pump and with a governor at the injection pump, as well as with a full-load abutment movable as a function of the engine rotational speed for the limitation or release of the injection quantity. The full-load abutment is thereby constructed as three-dimensional cam which is dependent in the direction of its second dimension on a magnitude changing analogously to the supercharging degree or on the supercharging pressure.

An installation for preheating the combustion air for the multi-fuel operation of air-compressing and auto-igniting injection-type internal combustion engines with poorly ignitable fuels, for example, gasoline, during idling and partial loads, which essentially consists of an injection nozzle for fuel and of a spark plug arranged in the suction pipe. The spark plug and injection nozzle are thereby combined into a structural unit as an insert body which includes a cover structure partially covering the spark plug and the injection nozzle while a protective plate member is provided in the path of the combustion air within the suction pipe for shielding the flame.
