In a method for determining the temperature of a wheel-braking device of a brake system, the current disc temperature of the brake disc is determined based on the last-determined disc temperature, the energy supplied to the brake disc since the last temperature determination, and the energy discharged by the brake disc since the last temperature determination. The current caliper temperature of the brake caliper of the wheel-braking device is determined by means of the current disc temperature of the brake disc.

A reference velocity of the vehicle is determined and, on the basis of the determined reference velocity, wheel calibration and cornering correction take place, and thereafter, the speed difference is determined therefrom. A method controls the driving stability in the event of increased slip at the driving wheels of a motor vehicle having an electronic traction system with braking intervention at the driving wheels. A method provides a continuous indirect termination of the braking-surface temperature for vehicles having a wheel-slip control system using active brake actions, in which the instantaneous temperature value is reduced cyclically up to, at most, a predetermined minimum temperature by a decrement allowing for the cooling and, if brake activation is recognized, is additionally increased by a heating increment. This increment is ascertained solely by recording the wheel speeds or from data of a possibly present brake-valve control, for example a wheel-slip control system, and from filed characteristic diagrams obtained empirically. The invention provides a process for performing calibration of the wheel speeds of a motor vehicle by periodically calculating and applying correction factors. The instantaneous speed of each wheel is measured periodically, and a vehicle turning rate is determined based on the time derivative of the differential between left and right wheel speeds. Actuation of the vehicle brakes is also detected. According to the invention, a new correction factor is determined only after the following criteria have been satisfied concurrently for a predetermined time period: vehicle speed is above a specified minimum, acceleration is within a specified range, vehicle turning is below a specified limit and the brakes are not actuated.
