In a liquid-cooled generator including a generator structure disposed in a housing in spaced relationship therefrom so as to form a narrow space between the generator structure and the housing wherein the housing has inlet and exit opening for conducting a coolant through the annular space, a restriction is disposed in the annular space between the inlet and the exit openings and the inlet opening extends essentially tangentially to the inner wall of the generator housing so as to establish in the annular space an essentially circumferential coolant flow.

In a valve actuating system for a multicylinder internal combustion engine having a camshaft supported in bearing pedestals on the cylinder head of the engine with rocker arms pivotally supported by rocker arm support shafts also mounted on the bearing pedestals and coupling levers arranged adjacent at least some of the rocker arms and including hydraulically operable coupling devices for engagement with the adjacent rocker arms, at least one of the bearing pedestals includes a pressure control space to which oil under pressure is supplied and the rocker arm support shafts have internal fluid flow passages in communication with the pressure control space and with the coupling devices so that pressurized fluid can be admitted to the coupling devices under the control of valve means disposed in the bearing pedestal.

The invention resides in a hollow rocker-arm shaft with multiple internal passages for an internal combustion engine which rocker-arm shaft consists of two shell sections forming circular segments which are welded together by a weld seam extending along the longitudinal edges of the circular segments and at least one dividing wall extends through the interior of the hollow shaft between the weld seams and divides the interior of the hollow shaft into at least two passages.

In a method of minimizing the play in a valve operating mechanism having first and second valve operating rocker arms mounted side-by-side on a support shaft wherein each rocker arm has one end disposed on a cam of a cam shaft to be actuated thereby and, the first rocker arm has its opposite end disposed on a gas-change valve for operating the valve while the second rocker arm has at its opposite end a coupling bore disposed adjacent a coupling bore formed in the first rocker arm and a coupling pin is arranged in the coupling bore of one of the rocker arms and projects into the bore of the other for engagement of the rocker arms with one another, the two rocker arms are mounted in a coupled state on the shaft of a measuring arrangement, a force is then applied to the valve engaging end of the first rocker arm for firmly biasing the first rocker arm against a base circle location of its associated cam and a force is applied to the one end of the second rocker arm to force it away from its associated cam into firm engagement with the first rocker arm via the coupling pin and a support roller with a diameter essentially twice the distance between a support roller axis on the second rocker arm and the associated cam base circle surface is then selected for installation in the second rocker arm.

Method of minimizing play in a valve operating mechanism

In an apparatus for valve actuation in a multi-cylinder internal combustion engine, a valve is actuated by two actuation levers which can be coupled together by coupling elements. The actuation levers are driven by two cams with different cam protrusions. In order to avoid wear-causing incomplete coupling for all the coupling elements when the cam protrusions become effective, their triggering for coupling and decoupling only takes place within an interval of time fixed with respect to the camshaft position. When the cam protrusions become effective, the coupling or decoupling procedure is either concluded or at least a sufficient overlap of the coupling elements is produced.

In a cylinder-head-mounted camshaft bearing structure for an internal combustion engine in which the camshaft bearings are mounted on the cylinder head by bearing caps arranged in spaced relationship from one another and the bearing caps have aligned mounting holes receiving rocker-arm support shafts for pivotally supporting the rocker arms between said bearing caps and the bearing caps are further interconnected by longitudinal webs so as to form an integral frame-like bridge unit, transverse webs are disposed between said caps in spaced relationship therefrom and interconnect the longitudinal webs so as to define between the transverse webs and between the webs and the adjacent bearing caps spaces receiving the rocker arms.

A valve actuation appliance for an internal combustion engine having an actuation lever and a coupling lever which can be coupled thereto. The levers are driven by different cams. In order to prevent coupling of the two levers in a region relative to the camshaft position, particularly when it is not certain that the coupling procedure will be concluded without interruption, it is proposed that the base circle of one of the two cams be lowered in that region by a slight amount relative to the rest of the base circle.

An angular adjustment is provided between a crankshaft and camshaft by a hydraulically operated rotary vane, which is pivotably mounted on the camshaft and is supported on a sprocket wheel carrier driven by a crankshaft rotation of the vane causing a relative rotation to take place between the crankshaft and camshaft. The rotary vane is held in each of its two end positions by a spring device.
