The invention relates to a common rail system for an internal combustion engine of a vehicle, comprising a high-pressure pump which delivers highly pressurized fuel to a high-pressure accumulator, from which the fuel is fed to at least one injection valve of the internal combustion engine, a low-pressure pump for conveying fuel from a fuel container via a conveying line to the high-pressure pump, a flow control valve as an electromagnetic switching valve which is arranged in the conveying line for controlling the fuel quantity which is fed by the high-pressure pump to the high-pressure accumulator; it is provided according to the invention that the flow control valve is configured as a ball seat valve with an inlet opening which is connected to the low-pressure pump and an outlet opening which is connected to the high-pressure pump, which ball seat valve is open in the de-energized state.

A ball seat valve, use thereof, and method for controlling a valve assembly comprising a ball seat valve, wherein the valve body has a chamber and a plurality of inlet openings in the chamber. The inlet openings together have an inflow area leading into the chamber through which a medium can flow, and wherein the medium flows through said openings simultaneously as these are connected to one another in parallel. The valve has a seat with an outlet opening leading out of the chamber through the valve body, and wherein the outlet opening has an outflow area leading out of the chamber through which the medium can flow. Additionally, the valve has a ball which is situated in the chamber so as to be displaceable to open up or block the outlet opening. It is advantageous that the plurality of inlet openings comprise more than 10, especially more than 50, individual such inlet openings, resulting in a decrease in pressure between the inflowing medium outside and that inside the chamber.

The invention relates to a ball poppet valve, in particular an electromagnetically actuated ball poppet valve, having a valve body, an accommodating aperture disposed in the valve body for a ball poppet, and a valve bore also disposed in the valve body, a ball poppet for closing the valve bore and a control stem acting on the ball poppet. The accommodating aperture of the valve body, starting from a cylindrical wall part of constant diameter in which the ball poppet sits, widens at an end opposite the control stem in at least approximately a funnel shape.

The invention relates to a ball poppet valve having a valve body, a cylindrical valve bore disposed in the valve body, a ball poppet for closing the valve bore and a movable control stem intruding into the valve bore. The control stem acts on the ball poppet, and the control stem has a diameter (d) that at least approximately becomes larger and larger in the direction towards the ball poppet.
