A measuring device () is provided for measuring the flow rate of a medium () flowing through measuring tube (). The measuring device () contains means for generating a constant magnetic field (B) perpendicular to the flow direction (v) of the medium () and at least two decoupling regions (') which are disposed in a plane (E) perpendicular to the flow direction (v) of the medium () on the wall () of the measuring tube (). Each decoupling region (&#x2032;) comprises an electrode (&#x2032;) which has a non-metal porous layer () on the side facing the medium () and a measuring unit () for detecting a measuring signal. In the measuring device (), the porous layer (&#x2032;) comprises an oxidic and/or non-oxidic ceramic material.

Measuring device and method for measuring the flow rate of a medium flowing through a measuring tube

A method is provided for measuring the mean flow velocity of an electrically conductive medium while applying a magnetic field to the measurement volume put through and decoupling an electric signal induced in the measurement volume. The fluctuating part of the electric signal, which is based on stochastic fluctuations of the flow velocity due to turbulent motion, is captured as a time-dependent wanted signal. By the weighted integration of the wanted signal the mean flow velocity over predefined time intervals is determined.

A method is provided for measuring the flow rate of a medium in a volume subjected to a magnetic field. The electrical resistance of a semiconductor arranged adjacent to the volume is measured, and the flow rate of the medium is computed from this electrical resistance.

An ultrasonic flow meter has two ring-shaped piezoelectric transducers (1, 2) comprising ring-shaped piezoelectric elements or being composed of piezoelectric sections. Both the transducers (1, 2) are arranged in axial symmetry in a distance to each other. One of them is operated as the ultrasonic transmitter and the other one as ultrasonic receiver. The medium, the flow rate of which is to be measured, flows through both the transducers (1, 2) essentially parallel to the axis (L--L).

An apparatus and a method for the measurement of the complex dielectric constant of a material by evaluating the amount of detuning introduced by the presence of the material. In order to simplify the circuitry required for measurement and evaluation according to the invention there are provided two rf resonators (8, 8') of the same construction, each of them comprising a dielectric solid state resonator (1, 1') in a case having a first conductive section (2, 2') and a second section (3, 3'), which is permeable for alternating fields. Both the rf resonators are positioned to each other in such a way as to provide a shielding effect by their conductive case sections (2, 2') against mutual interference and to have their sections permeable for electromagnetic fields (3, 3') facing towards the material to be measured. The operating rf frequency coupled to both the rf resonators and/or the resonance frequencies of the rf resonators (8, 8') are selected in such a way that, in the absence of the material to be measured, the common operating frequency is centered between the resonance frequencies of the rf resonators (8, 8'). On the basis of the measured amplitude values of the rf signals received in both the rf resonators and their sum and difference values the complex dielectric constant may be determined. Therefore, the need of a complete sampling of the resonance curves of the rf resonators is eliminated.
