A process, a control system (CS), a terminal (TER), an exchange, an incoupling device, a decoupling device, and a combination device for providing functions to a telecommunications terminal (TER) which is connected to an exchange (EX) via a subscriber line (SL). Therein a connection (VL , VL ) of the subscriber line is carried out via a control system (CS) on the network side while a decoupling device (DECP) decouples the connection from the subscriber line and an incoupling device (INCP) incouples the connection once again into the subscriber line. The control system provides the functions to the terminal by manipulation of data which are transmitted on the connection.

The invention concerns a method of charging for the use of an internet service (SERV) by a subscriber of a communications network (KN), plus a service unit (SERV_IN) of this communications network and a service provider unit (SERVU) which furnishes the internet service (SERV). The subscriber accesses the internet service (SERV) by means of a terminal (TE) of the communications network. Establishing a communication connection between the terminal (TE) and the internet (INT) triggers the service unit (SERV_IN) of the communications network (KN). When the internet service (SERV) is accessed via this communication connection, an additional control connection (KOMM) is established between the internet service (SERV) and the service unit (SERV_IN). Fee charging data which identify the fees for the use of the internet service by the subscriber are transmitted to the service unit (SERV_IN) of the communications network (KN) via the control connection (KOMM), and the service unit (SERV_IN) of the communications network (KN) then controls the charging of the fees in the communications network (KN).

The essential functions and characteristics of a telecommunications system with cordless terminals are established by the known DECT standard. On the one hand, the invention has the task of reducing the cost of ADPCM/PCM transcoders in DECT or DECT-like systems, and on the other to improve the handover characteristics, by making an interruption-free channel changeover, even during a change of cell bundles. To that effect, all DECT interface circuits (9, 10) are jointly controlled by a central processing unit (MOB CPU) assigned only to these DECT interface circuits (9, 10). The otherwise usual ADPCM/PCM transcoders have been omitted in the DECT interface circuits (9, 10), and are now assigned to the central processing unit (MOB CPU), while their number can be reduced in comparison to known solutions. The central processing unit (MOB CPU) also takes over the switching functions for the channels offered by the DECT interface circuits (9, 10). Since the channels from different DECT interface circuits (9, 10) are in frame-synchronous form, the central processing unit (MOB CPU) can carry out an interruption-free channel change during the cell bundle change of a cordless terminal.

LAN's are customarily used for pure data communication. Voice communication via a LAN is only possible with the constraint of other subscribers being subjected to long waiting periods during the relatively long occupation time. The present LAN expands the functionality of work stations connected to the LAN, by using ATM technology to meet the communication requirements of an office environment. A network node or a conventional work station (3) is expanded by means of a unit which performs switching technology functions, so that terminals of the most different types (4, 5, 6, 7) can access the LAN via interface circuits (41, 51, 61, 71), resulting in a private network with distributed telecommunication installations. In this way, real-time connections with different bandwidth requirements, such as for example video conferences and pure voice transmission, are made possible. The thus expanded ATM-LAN is suitable for all types of communications taking place in an office.

A private branch exchange (PABX) with an integrated mobile part for controlling cordless terminals (HS) is established, which can be operated from base stations (BS). A central control unit (PABX-CPU) is provided to control all call handling and service feature control tasks, and a subordinate control unit (Mobile-CPU) for call setup and switch-off control of the cordless terminals (HS) in accordance with a set of assigned call numbers. For packet-data switching in the ISDN D channel through a digital exchange, the need for a costly frame handler for processing OSI Layer 2 and 3 functions is to be eliminated; in response to destination information in the SET UP message, an OSI Layer 3 control unit (SE3) establishes a connection between the two OSI Layer 2 control units (SE1, SE2) of the exchange (VST), to which the data terminals (DEE1, DEE2) are connectable and direct packet-data transfer can then take place between the OSI Layer 2 control units without further participation of the Layer 3 control unit.
